How does it compare to Nascar 2003 by Papyrus
I'm not looking for a polished game while it is in Beta, however I have waitred for a long time for a replacement for Nascar 2003 Racing Season by Papyrus racing. Does this game give you that same thrill and excitement? Does it compare for a true racing fan?

I know about Iracing but simply can't afford it!

U can't compare this game with "Mr. Dave Kaemmer Simulations" published by Papyrus in the past (my opinion)

the better way to go, if you're a diehard Papyrus racer and have the money, also time for train etc. for sure, and by this point, is "iracing.com" I'd guess.

But this game is great imo and fun, I like it, even in it's current beta stage ... the beta in my opinion is better as any EA thunder series and also NASCAR SimRacing .
..
Support the developers and buy this thing, Sir! ... the last offical NASCAR game on the PC was the EA fail SimRacing, back in '05 with bugs that even the inoffical patch by the devs couldn't sort out....

I don't know, but if this game get's a community and more PC Players, maybe the devs listen to us and make this game even better... I hope they'll go a little more into controller/wheel! support and fix some stuff. :)

For now and my opinion is, the money is well spent.
Give it a chance!

Thanks for the input Skyline, I decided to give it a shot and see how I like it. I will let you know!

My initial impression after one hour is it is not as SIM as NR2003 and nowhere close to Iracing. The graphics are not that great by todays standards but not horrible. It does feel better to me than any of the Rfactor mods and seems much better than any of the previous EA attempts at NASCAR, I love NR2003 but Iracing is so expensive and no single player so this is worth a shot at the price to me.
The sense of speed seems about right. The force feedback is not as precise as NR2003 or Iracing with my G27.

The more I drive it the more I like it. You will need some really good setups to win at the hardest level. After driving it for a couple of hours I do think it has the same thrill as NR2003 and to me feels a bit more realistic (I have never raced in real life except drag racing).
I like the game and think it is well worth the money. My biggest grip is that the cockpit view is low res and really needs to be improved.

the graphics yes can be better but that will not come till 2014 as by then it will be next -gen console prt so be dx11 but for the 35.99 price it will be great game as long as the keep updating and it is great for them to have a real nascar game to the pc agian been long time wating

I have not come across a screen shot yet of a driver cockpit view: Is there one modeled in the game or the views all external?
pauldalton Jun 23, 2013 @ 5:18am
Yes there is a cockpit view.
Arcticspyder Jun 23, 2013 @ 8:43am
Ranger, absolutely! There are actually two in car views, one driver prespective (you can see your hands, the dash, etc...) the other is an over the wheel view. I only race in car driver perspective.

Wish I could have responded to you earlier.

NR2003 is still the gold standard of stock car sims, and any major NASCAR fan should hvae it installed.
iRacing.com had potential to be awesome, but the devs alienated the real world drivers by refusing to listen to them when it came to physics. iRacing is in no way realistic right now and many people are planning a mass exodus of sorts over there.
I would compare NTG2013 in its current state to most rFactor NASCAR mods. It's okay in the right circumstances.

I think the problem with Iracing is they priced it out of most people's budgets. I raced there for a little while and it was fun but the continued cost was prohibitive! I really enjoyed a half race at Daytona last night on hard. Definitely not Nascar 2003 but worth the time and money!

The problem with iRacing right now is that the vocal minority on the forums are full of guys who can't drive and complain about physics without any real world knowledge. So the devs try to change how the game drives to suit joe blow, and then all of the real world drivers are like "what the hell are you doing?"

iRacing is horrible right now, and this is coming from a two time champion over there.

NR2003 is awesome without a doubt. I think NTG2013 is better than any of the rFactor mods I have tried. It seems to have potential to be a really good game if all the bugs are worked out. As is I think it is a lot of fun and for sure in my mind is the best NASCAR game with single player since NR2003.

I will never badmouth NR2003; it has a ton of mods and graphic updates that have kept it fresh. I have spent more time in NR2003 than any other PC game I have owned since I first got a PC in the early 90's. I paid $9.95 for my copy from Wal-Mart about six months after it came out. Before that NASCAR Heat was my favorite.

Even if this game is not up to NR2003 standards I think it is worth the purchase price.
