I would not recommend playing this one in a widescreen resolution until they add FOV slider.
The game was originally created for 4:3, and the way this Megaton edition makes it "widescreen" is by cutting off the top of the screen.

Think watching a standard definition 4:3 movie on an HDTV and pressing "zoom" to make it fill the wide screen at the expense of losing a lot of the picture.

Shadow Warrior is the same way, but it has an FOV slider allowing you to compensate by trial and error. Duke doesn't even have that.

I'm using a 16:9 screen and it looks fine for me (yes i have played this game before).

yes wheres the FOV slider. I read somewhere they wanted to port it from shadow warror. Where is it?

You probably don't realize that the standard 4:3 view has a HUD bar taking up a large part of the screen, making the actual game area closer to 16:9 than 4:3.
Also, imagine a movie shot in 4:3 format but showing extra space not intended for view when shown on a 16:9 screen.

Nope, when I launched the game, it just looked waaaay wrong, I couldn't stand playing it like that unless I were to move my 23" monitor 3 feet further away, for a total of 5 or 6'. And the HUD seems the same as I remember from the DOS version. May look "fine" on a TV, but not a monitor.

The HUD is definitely not the same as the DOS version. Nothing's been cut off, either.

Oh yes, you're 100% correct on opposite day.

I've been playing mine on a 27 inch monitor and it feels fine. Maybe it's just you.

You just literally showed me two sets of screenshots that were no different from each other. If you look at the windows along the top, they're all present in both the DOS and Megaton versions.

Nothing was removed.

3 sets of screenshots.

The 800x600 screens are the same between DOSBox and Megaton. That's how the game is meant to be played.

The 1280x720 is different - look at the windows and the floor.

I really don't see any difference, but let's just say something was cropped. It's so negligible only someone who only plays games for the tiniest details instead of the overall experience would notice it.

Agreed. Personally I have no complaints for the game so far other than a secret area in level 2 L.A being bugged making it impossible for me to leave the secret area...

Two and a half rows of windows missing from top, and a non-insignificant portion of the floor at the bottom is not "negligible." Have fun missing the troupers flying a bit higher than your line of sight.

Because of this, I play the game in a 1280x960 window. Just wish windowed mode behaved better.

I've run into a few bugs like that, but overall, the game's a solid upgrade from the DOS version.

I'm sorry man, but I just loaded the game up, and compared it to my DOS version. Literally no difference. Granted, I play in 1600x900, so maybe I might have a better time than you, but the point still stands. Nothing's changed. Perhaps it's just your display.

Did you even look at the screenshots? And I don't mean the thumbnails. Those were taken using Steam - my display has nothing to do with it.

But anyway, if you're fine playing a zoomed-in version, good for you.

I'm fine with it too. As Adam Orth says; just deal with it 8 /
