Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition

Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition

Map chitchat.
So some of you are probably already familiar with mapping and some might be new. Anyone working on some new maps for duke nukem co-op / DM when megaton gets multiplayer?

I figured at the very least we could all discuss something that's productive and get the community going again a little.

Idk about that. The editor is hard as hell to understand
I remember a long time ago I tried to make a map. It's easier or more difficult depending on how you view unused space. Maps in Quake and Unreal have unused space as empty space, so you create walls and floors using brushes. To create a closed room you have to create all 6 sides using brushes. Duke3D's build engine has unused space as filled space, so in the map editor you create a polygon in 2D and that creates an empty room in 3D where that polygon is.

I wish I could make maps, but I lack creativity.
I had a go with mapster 32 the other day and made something truely awful. I'm so proud.
I'm not much of a mapper either but i have been messing with build since as long as i can remember. Probably most of my life.

If any of you could make a map perfectly, what would you try and make?

Yeah the build engine is quite unique in that regard i suppose. There's already an ocean of maps out there but it'd be nice to see some life come back to the community inspiring new mappers to the playing field.

I'm sure it'll boom soon as the new multiplayer is implemented. Nothing inspires mapping like actually playing multiplayer on that game.
I always wanted to make a skyscraper tower level or episode. I'm thinking single player first, but multiplayer is definitely possible and probably fun. I would start it off with agrand lobby and convention center type ballrooms. Then it would progress into residential apartments or hotel rooms, kind of like The Raid: Redemption or Dredd (2012), then it would progress into office floors, lots of breakable glass and computers, then it would go to penthouse suites.

The top floor would then be the final battle where the aliens have taken control of some kind of super technology. Like an infinite energy generator like what Tony Stark would have made in those Iron Man movies. Your progress is always impeded by having to find the keycards, or broken elevators. Heck, sometimes you have to go down in order to come back up. That's my dream episode.
Just to make the tower climb even more lengthy and badass, I would have had it so that you started off in the city, the giant building is barracaded from the bottom, so you have to enter through an adjacent hotel+casino that connected with it. via a walkway. Kind of like the casinos in Vegas or Reno how you can walk over the streets, I forget what they call those overpasses.

Edit: Because it's Duke Nukem, all of those Duke one-liners which are taken from 80's/90's action movies would fit in so perfectly. I imagine this is kind of like Die Hard or something.

Sounds like an awesome map to play! you should start looking into how mapster32 works and start practicing for it.

Or at least design it out and get a decent mapper to colaborate with you on it.

Before all this i was working on a map that was inside a cave with lava and you had a lot of crap to jump from, it seemed pretty cool at the time. I'm thinking of re-doing it since i never actually got to save that i think. It would make a good DM map i think.
