Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition

Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition

Thoughts on multiplayer and the upcoming Shadow Warrior release
First of all let me say that I love Devolver Digital and Duke. With that out of the way I'm really disappointed with the way in which you guys handled the Megaton edition release. You promised that multiplayer would be coming "shortly after the release" July isn't shortly after the release. It's now obvious that the guys who should be working on the multiplayer part of Duke 3d are working on the Shadow Warrior release instead.

I love Shadow Warrior as well, but I won't be buying it on release day as I did with Duke, since you didn't deliver what you promised (I already own both Duke 3d and SW on GOG) I bought Duke again hoping to play multiplayer with a painless solution, like Steamworks offers. I didn't get that, I got the same game that I already had and some shiny achievements. Thanks for your work guys, but please avoid doing this kind of thing next time.

And yes, I know that the store page for Duke 3d Megaton doesn't list multiplayer as a feature, but it was promised to us by the devs, so it should be here by now.

Peace.

^ ditto. The day I buy SW is the day that ~both~ Duke and SW have multiplayer.
Not for me, I don't give a crap about multiplayer. I'm happy to play a classic game. I'll buy it as soon as it comes out.

I'll be as happy as you are, but it's undeniable that the devs were not straight with us here. You might not care about multiplayer, but it was a big part of Duke 3d back in the day and other people care about it. It's not like people who don't care about multiplayer will lose something, right?
I'm bummed out too....some co-op duke sounds pretty fun at the moment but alas.........
"soon" and "shortly" should always be taken with a grain of salt. Companies always say this and its most often never as quick as people think or hope for.

Yes I know that it was a part of the original game, but there are always alternatives. plug in the old n64, call your buddies, and order a pizza and party all night in Dukematch. :)
Dude, the game was launched in 1996.

I don't get it.
Anyways, the original version of the game had multiplayer, though it's not so easy to set up and play like it would be with Steamworks.
Even though the multiplayer not being released until possibly July is not something I wanted to hear, at least you guys have a date now and to look forward to Shadow Warrior whilst you wait ;)

I cannot agree more with him. Had I known that multiplayer wouldn't come up as promised, I would never have purchased it again :(
Well compared to duke nukem forever release, seeing a multiplayer in july is the quickest thing ever done by mankind.

DNF joke out of the way, megaton does give us the expansions to enjoy as well as the original classic version so we can enjoy the other ports of the game and mods. If you're familiar with the port xduke and yang you can use that to achieve multiplayer. But its old network coding and such does make for a usually laggy and jittery gameplay but if you're on client side no ports need to be opened, only hosts need to bother themselves with such tedious tasks.

But really if they do deliver when they said they're going to deliver then 10 dollars of our money and 2 months of our time is a small price to pay for some refined good ol fashioned Duke matches.

Also i'm kind of lead to believe the steam community caused this themselves by asking for shadow warrior. Game developers and business men are like people in a bank, if you announce that a certain bank teller position is going to be throwing money out the window where do you think all the people in the bank will go? Certainly not to the bathroom.

Anyway that's my "Trying to stay awake until i can go to sleep" rant for the day!
waiting for online features before i buy lol

They Should Release Blood Next :D.

Can't, it's not a property of 3D Realms or Devolver Digital. Go bother Atari.
I just hope the two game's source ports are similar enough (I recall that Shadow Warrior used an improved BUILD engine over Duke) that multiplayer support added on the one can be easily adapted to the other.

I can wait until July. Something to look forward to. Will buy Shadow Warrior as well.

I am greatful they are being ported to Steam at all really. I was not expecting it to ever happen.
