Well, the Build editor is included with the steam release. Mind you, if you have eDuke32, just put your duke3d.grp file into the edike32 folder, and run Mapster32. It's a much better version of Build, and you can even do stuff you cannot do using Build.

Were there proper 'expansions' beyond what's included? Most of what I'm seeing on Google is Dukezone and the like just being giant collections of single levels ranging from shoddy to ok quality.

The only official "stuff" missing is the PS1 exclusive episode, "Plug & Pray".

DukeZone! stuff was all taken from the internet (something that was hard back in the day). Of course, many of the maps included in are no longer avaiable anywhere else but in the DukeZone cds.

The last missing officially made or authorized Duke 3D content are:

The PSX's exclusive Plug n Pray episode,

Penthouse Paradise, an official level distributed in the Penthouse magazine back in the days,

And Duke!Zone II, which had three episodes (Arctic Assault, Alien Abbey, Monkey Shines) designed by Simply Silly Software, the guys behind Duke: Nuclear Winter, in addition to the five hundred user made levels taken from ye olde internet included in Duke!Zone.

Every other expansion were shovelware.

But would one be able to install these expansion packs for the Steam version?

"Traditional" expansion packs (for any game) aren't normally supported by Steam... Are they?

Talk about a year old bump.

D!Zone2 and Duke Xtreme both work with Megaton. So does Duke's Penthouse Paradise.

thanks :D

Okay much to my surprise, expansion packs do (as some have indicated) work with Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition!

Here is how (step-by-step) to install and use the Duke Nukem's Penthouse Paradise expansion pack, for the Ubuntu (Linux) version of Steam step-by-step - my understanding is that the process is the same or very similar for Apple Mac OS and Microsoft Windows operating systems...

1. Download your expansion pack and if it is compressed, de-compress it.
1a. If you're picky about keeping things "neat" like me, you can re-name the de-compressed folder whatever you want... If you just want things running, skip this step.
2. In Steam, right-click Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition (Steam-->Library-->Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition) and select "Properties".
3. Click "Local Files".
4. Click "Browse Local Files".
5. Open the "gameroot" folder.
6. Open the "addons" folder.
7. Cut-and-paste the de-compressed expansion pack folder (in this case, "Duke Nukem's Penthouse Paradise") into the "addons" folder.
8. In the "Properties" dialog box (if you don't have it open anymore, refer to step "2"), select "General".
9. Click "Set Launch Options".
10. Enter "-gpenthous.grp" (without the quotes).
11. Click "Okay", then "Close".
12. Restart Steam, and launch Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition, Episode 1 (this expansion pack does not work with the other games and expansion packs which are included).

To disable the Duke Nukem's Penthouse Paradise expansion pack and play Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition as per normal...
1. In Steam, right-click Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition (Steam-->Library-->Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition) and select "Properties".
2. Click "Set Launch Options".
3. Delete "-gpenthous.grp" (so that the text field is blank).
4. Click "Okay", then "Close".
5. Restart Steam, and launch Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition.

To re-enable the Duke Nukem's Penthouse Paradise expansion pack and play Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition with this level...
1. In Steam, right-click Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition (Steam-->Library-->Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition) and select "Properties".
2. Click "Set Launch Options".
3. Enter "-gpenthous.grp" (without the quotes).
4. Click "Okay", then "Close".
5. Restart Steam, and launch Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition.

10/10 instructions would instruction again. Thanks you :)

Anytime.

I'm on a mac. These instructions didn't work for me for some reason. Does it matter if I'm on the D3d beta (latest update installed)? I set the launch options correctly and installed the uncompressed folder in the right addon directory, but when I launch megaton, it just launches to the usual first episode of the duke3d.grp content when I select "new game." Shouldn't it launch and immediately load the gpenthous.grp addon?
