I've opened a branch in Steam for public beta. So anyone can install beta without annoying replacing binary and easily switch back to mainstream. So any changes, bugfixes, features will be submitted to Public Beta first and than later to mainstream.

When posting feedback, it is very helpful to include system specs, operating system and game version.

Awesome!
Aiming seemed fine to me in the normal v1.0 version, like I remember it. It's slow when vsync is on though. Forced vsync off in the AMD CCC and that fixed it for me.

On a sidenote...

It started to turn into a flame war but Voodooman does make a point. I appreciate the fact that you are trying fix the game now that it has been released on Steam, but the suggestions posted there would pretty much turn the simple port into an amazing re-release of an old classic. In fact... if this game had all that, i'd be glad to put down 30 euros instead of the 10 right now. I am feeling a bit disappointed right now. I might as well just ask for a refund and play the GOG version.

I as a consumer really dont give a darn if its hard to code, i just want my money's worth. Right now, only old fans buy this game because of sentimental value. It's hard to recommend this game to new people, it's graphics just make it look too old(despite the solid gameplay). Almost none of my friends want to play this game. Voodoo's suggestions could really get this game into this so called HD-era and even attract new customers. Please don't let this remain a simple port, and instead turn it into THE best version available.

I don't generally mess with betas {if it ain't broke, don't fix it} but this game is a small enough download I thought I'd give it a try. First impressions, it seems like a real improvement, great work. Seems to make it work better all around. I will update this post after I live with it for a bit.
Thank you.

nice, how about adding 'demo record' in menus?

My game crashes sometimes when I try to quick save. Mouse seems fine, but didn't have a problem with it before anyway.

Joined the beta, have a bug to report, after manually saving I immediately quick-saved and the game froze, I could still access the main menu, but in-game was stuck. This was in the map The Abyss. I tried replicating the error but I could not.

An odd crash just takes us back to our DOS roots. Builds character.

Wow, I love you guys! I'll try when back in home :D

I've just tested the beta on my computer with AMD graphics card.

-Quick Save/Load works fine. No problems.
-Mouse aiming seems to be much more precise now.
-Animation after defeating first episode boss now plays properly.
-Shrunk Duke's running animation now moves at normal speed (maybe a little slower than the original game but not enough that it's a problem).
-However, the screen-warping animation when Duke shrinks/grows still doesn't work properly. It just flickers between showing the screen at normal size and showing it at small size.

Overall, this patch is a big improvement. Thanks very much.

Yeah, nice first beta patch! Please add in the near future second volume slider for music in audio menu, like old school duke :) Thanks.

So, I have Windows XP with installed CPL mouse fix (used e.g in Counter-Strike 1.6 back in few years ago till now) and when I turn on the beta I have my mouse like "swimming". I have latency(delay) when i move my mouse. I have this also in Valve Games like CS Half life and other when they put update for mouse acceleration options. Maybe mouse fix will be only an option? When I turn off beta my mouse is working properly like in the past. I know my computer specification is little not like in present time but you will know some people use older computers with different settings so imo it will be really good to have choise with the mouse fix :) Otherwise all is working good for me, I just saw the "fast hands" when shrunk was repaired, so I see the way to make Duke perfect is good :)

Really thanks for DN3D on steam :)

I waited a long of time to have this on steam and it's really good you are responsible for support for this great game :)

Having just said the quicksave feature didn't cause any problems, my game later crashed while quicksaving. Rebooting the game fixed the problem.

To be fair, it only happened once and I've been quicksaving quite a lot, but I just thought it was worth mentioning nonetheless.

PS: One more thing I completely forgot to mention. The screen-tearing that I experienced in the old version has now been fixed in this beta.

Jumped into the beta! The quicksave/load feature works great, have yet to have any crashes or problems. As for the mouse... I turned vsync back on in my graphics card settings and loaded up the game. The mouse is improved but still feels wonky to me.

[UPDATE] Dukes shrunken running animations are still too fast

After the patch, the first save slot is automatically converted to a quicksave slot, allowing accidental quicksaving over the slot, thus making it possible to lose saved games.

Also the quicksaving feature can put the game in a limbo (stuttering between a few game ticks). Quicksaving a second time during this effect will make the game crash.

Also wouldn't using either the classic Duke 3D function keys (F2 - save, F3 - load) or modern keys (F5 - save, F9 - load) make more sense instead of choosing the weird Valve approach.
