How do I enable the original MIDI music this comes with?

The music it comes with is recorded from a Roland SC-55 (Sound Canvas) with the original midis and the original tracks were made with a SC-55.

Megaton itself doesn't have Midi support though so if you wanted to change the music, you would have to replace the ogg files.

So is what I'm hearing as close to the original tracks as possible without using the DOS version?

You're hearing how the tracks are intended to be. The DOS version can be setup to use different sound sources but the SC-55 is the most accurate.

Excellent, thank you very much for your quick replies. While you are here, would you happen to know where I could find a complete log of the differences between the Steam version and the original game? I noticed, for example, that the status bar appears to have been redrawn and I'm curious as to what else is different, since you seem to be pretty knowledgeable about Duke.

I do wish Megaton still had MIDI output as an option however. I'd love to play Megaton through the MIDI Mapper.

The ♥♥♥ code JonoF ported to Windows already makes this really painless to do so you don't have to fumble around a bunch of different drivers for DOS, though it technically would be possible to pair an OPL3 emulator together with a port of the ♥♥♥ adlib driver...

EDIT: Not a swear since that's the 'fun' acronym of the Apogee Sound System. Toilet humor in game development is not exactly a new thing.
