Level Editor?
I see custom maps on the workshop, do i get build with this? I made levels for this when I was like 12 years old, I'm curious to see if I retained ANY of that knowledge.

Yes, it's included with Megaton but you really might want to look for Mapster32 to save you a lot of headaches.

I also remember playing some of the maps on the workshop back when I was 12. Gonna get into this tonight hopefully and have a nice blast to the past!

Ya Mapster was a great map maker for many games you should use it :)!
Dang and I was wasting my time all those years using build to make levels.
I had the full guide for build so I actually got pretty good at it for a kid. After playing a bit last night I was reminded of how games didn't hold your hand back in the day. Used to be able to blast through on lets rock. No checkpoints and manual saves? Aint no one got time for that! :P Seriously though, game still kicks ass after all these years. Might get back into modding this, I'd really like to see some HD textures, though not sure if its even possible in this game without some in depth modding. Im gonna do some experimenting this weekend, basically try to import some source textures. Though if its that easy I'm sure someone would have done it by now. I remember an old mod that replaced the enemy sprites with 3d models. Hopefully I can track it down!

Im just not sure how the game engine itself handles them. Seeing as HD wasn't even a blip on the radar when this game came out.
You can say the same about a lot of engines based on games that came out in the 90's, such as Darkplaces. The renderer pretty much as nothing to do with the game logic itself so adding visual enhancements isn't a problem.
If you're using eduke32's polymer renderer it should also be able to handle normal and spec maps.
Note that eduke32 includes 3 completely seperate renderers each written from scratch :P

Considering the caching system, it's definitely an easier said than done thing.
