Saving/quicksaving delay

It's not a big deal, but it's a bit irritating (I've lost a few levels of progress twice now):

when I save/quicksave, it takes a while (not a lot, like 10s) for the game to update my save from the old file to the new one. I quicksave a lot and I sometimes play on the train (which means offline), and even offline, it takes a while for the game to actually overwrite the save file.

Is this normal or is there a way to fix this? I quicksave a lot in 90s shooters because, well, 90s shooters, and it's annoying to have to stand around and mash F2 to check if the game has saved or not so I can move on.

EDIT: I tried turning Steam Cloud off, but it's the same. However, I noticed that if I quickly press Esc after saving, it shows the "Save Game" menu for some reason, and then the main menu, so if I just hit Esc twice, it overwrites immediately. Strange.
