best value game I ever bought on steam!
and I've bought a lot of them...from crappy "indie" titles that people rave about just to be trendy, to big titles for near $100...

This game "Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons" would be the best value ever, for its modest $15. In particular if you have kids and you're looking for that elusive game that you can play with them, that makes them think a bit, but also that adults can enjoy too - this is it. Gorgeous graphics, atmospheric sound. Decent puzzles and an engaging story.

sounds like a chessy review? well, so be it. I have no links to the game, and i don't usually take the time to comment this way on games or any other products for that matter. but once in a while I feel I got such a great product, I owe the positive feedback. Someone put huge time and effort into this. you can tell how much they wanted it to be good.

yes - the game's probably only playable once, but thats cool. if it gives me a few hours quality time with my kid, then $15 for one play through is fine by me.

in saying that, i really hope there's downloadable content later, another story etc..etc.. that would be awesome.

done

EDIT - the above was written when I was probably about 1/3 through the game, now that i've finished it, (and as others have suggested) this might not be suitable for younger kids. My opinion of the game's value (even at full $15 price) remains though. Its brilliant. Just excercise discretion and supervision with the young-uns. Cheers.

I wouldn't let kids play it, it's quite a mature story and there's even an attempted suicide somewhere in the game.

I've not finished Brothers yet, but my time with it so far suggests to me that it is a good value for the sale price I paid. That said, I'm not sure if you (the OP) are referring to the full price with respects to value, or sale price. I've bought some big name titles on sale that were extreme bargains by comparison. For $15 or less (full price) there are some excellent indie titles that come to mind like Papo & Yo, Limbo, The Swapper, to name a few of my favorites.

considering it took me 2 hours to complete in and i felt i explored everything and saw everything that was to see i wouldn't say its worth more than 5 euros. it was an interesting approach to a game, i liked that it tried to focus on storytelling but considering the focus of the game i felt the story was too weak, the facial animations was too weak to properly convey feelings and emotions, the voiceacting was lackluster, the sounds left a lot to be wanted and the ending, ("soft spoiler alert") while im glad it wasnt the super-predictable ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ i was expecting sure wasnt good either.

i feel like this was a nice idea but they didnt manage to bring it the full distance. however the atmosphere in the game they did a good job with, the artstyle was beautiful and the atmosphere created was great too. some of the music in the game did a good job setting the tone and immersing you into the experience. still, i would say this game was a 3/5, nice idea and nice ambition but it didnt do what it wanted to do.

Curiously, the face animations are poor, the path is straight ahead, the puzzles are poor, and yet it is probably one of the finest games in poetry, wonders, maturity, elegance, initiatory journey, that I was able to play.
I wonder if the puzzles were worked more, if the animations were the most beautiful faces, if the paths were more tortuous, if the game was longer, if magic was at the rendezvous, as it the has been to me.
So if sometimes we critisize a game for its beautiful graphics and obvious lack of interest here, it is quite otherwise. The magic of beauty, poetry and simplicity are everything.
We do not unscathed such a game. Congratulations and thank you artists.

It can be said louder but not clearer as this guy! :sunspeed:

I didn't feel the puzzles were poor. Sure, fairly simple, but some of them had be thinking for a bit. They weren't meant to be Portal-level, or impossible pixel-hunting point-and-click hard.

I am playing it for the second time with my 5 and 7 year old and they are loving every minute of it.
Sure the puzzles are not hard but tbh who cares its a beautifull story with highs and lows and even without any dialog per say such a wonderfull and gripping story can be told A++++. Worth every penny. One of my best games ever and i have been playing games for 20 odd years

Ye the game is not really for small kids.
The games environment is amazing, I really loved it. After some time when you start getting into darker territory it gets a bit creepy.

Totally agree, it is a masterpiece of storytelling, especially considering the medium. I haven't been swept away by a game like this in a long time. It has heart and soul, and really draws you into a fairy-tale world, like in the old Eastern European stories. It's beautiful.

I got it for my 360 just finished it few hours ago, so beautiful game and so moving an emotionally powerful.

I paid it at full price and I am not sorry I agree with OP, one of the most beautiful games I had played in a long time, if there is an argue if videogames can be considered art this game is an example and I am not sorry for what I paid.

Sometimes we pay over 60 dollars for supposed AAA games that end being buggy and generic garbage to please to the masses.

games like this is why I only buy indie games now on steam
timeformime 6. apr. 2014 kl. 16.01
Hell yeah this was a great deal. Amazon had a $5 credit during Xmas and I ended up getting this for $2.50, but it still was worth full price. I just finished it recently and I could probably play through it again (even with dozens of games in my backlog). I love it when an indie game is concise and powerful in just a 3.5 hour playthrough.
