My wife REALLY liked this game. Those who have played it: Would you be able to recommend anything similar? From pictures I'd think Ico was pretty similar, but I don't know. Any suggestions welcome!

Journey on the PS3 is an amazing experience. It's an experiment in anonymous cooperative play (Meaning online), and without any real way to communicate, the bond that forms is incredible. Plus, the silent story, told through the landscapes alone, is mesmerizing.

Another fantastic story (Although very heavy on reading) is 'To The Moon,' which is here on Steam. It's about these doctors in the business of "granting wishes:" On a patient's deathbed, they go in and restructure their memories of their life so that, to them, their life went exactly how they wanted it to, based on their wish. This game is about one such patient, that, as the name suggests, wanted to go to the moon. It's a top-down RPG with retro-style graphics, and most of the playtime is spent reading the dialogue, but if you aren't one of those people that gets irrationally angry at games that "aren't real games," and if you can appreciate a good, emotional story, I highly recommend it.

I'm sure there are many other games I could recommend, since story-driven, emotional experiences are really what I look for in games, but I'd need to browse through my library to find anything specific.
I've played To The Moon, and it's an amazing story for a game that I didn't think could get me addicted like it did.

I also would recommend The Walking Dead Season 1 on Steam, It is zombie related and that is totally a different aspect of story. But I recommend it for the great story it has and how the bond that you gain with the characters is emotional, you start to feel like things are hopeless...

Great games 10/10 totally recommend them.
Brothers pales in comparison to To The Moon as far as storytelling goes. To The Moon was just intense and a rollercoaster of emotions. Brothers didn't really hit me emotionally until the very end and only for a moment. It didn't have a lasting effect like To The Moon did.

After I played To The Moon I still thought about the game and characters and still do reflect on that game from time to time.

Brothers was good and had some very beautiful scenery but story wise you can't go wrong with To The Moon.

I played both games in one sitting which means Brothers did it's job, just not as well emotionally as I would have liked.

Papo y Yo (sp?) is a game in this vein. Puzzles, emotion, depth of story, and from a child's perspective. And let me add another +1 for To the Moon.

I completely feel the opposite. To the Moon never interested me enough to really even get into it. But I will give it another go after reading these reviews. I guess I just feel differently about the brothers element of this game and maybe that is why it hit me harder in the drama scenes of this game.

But back on topic. I really thought Last of Us was a really good story driven game like Brothers, but it is a LOT longer and actually is several chapters of a single story and brings you through a whole lot to get you really connected to the characters. Making the end very emotional.

The end of that game seriously tore me apart. I did NOT think he would do what he did, there... I haven't played the DLC, though. So I'm not sure how things extended from that.
I can also say that To The Moon would be a good game to play if you liked Brothers.
I think To The Moon does a better job with emotional impact as you have to read english, it adds more to the characters; unlike Brothers with its fake language.
I found some similariies playing Contrast. The story is not so deep, but the surreal atmosphere, musics, and plattforming/Puzzle elements are in common.
