I need more games like this. ((Spoilers, hinting at ending))
I just had to go ahead and make a thread asking for recommendations for games that are similarly emotionally charged. The Last of Us and this game here have both pulled on my heart strings like no game before. That being said, recommend away. Thank you.

Journey. One of the best games ever made.

I agree about "Journey"! It was only released on Playstation 3 (maybe 4, too) unfortunately.

There is a 2D game with retro style 16bit graphics called "Two Brothers" http://store.steampowered.com/app/259760/ Not only is this about two brothers as well, but it also deals with similar topics, like death. The problem is that it seems to be very buggy at the moment, but the programmers have promised to release a fixed PC version as soon they are going to finish their WiiU port of the game. That's why I did not play it so far.

Other 2D (sprite graphics) recommendations:
- "Braid" (puzzle platformer which, like "Brothers", reveals an interesting story without using English voice acting/ walls of text). http://store.steampowered.com/app/26800/
- "Limbo" (puzzle platformer) http://store.steampowered.com/app/48000/
- "To The Moon" (Adventure made with RPGmaker) http://store.steampowered.com/app/206440/
- "Little Inferno" (tricky recommendation, but I better not reveal, why) http://store.steampowered.com/app/221260/

3D games (polygon graphics):
- "Papo & Yo" http://store.steampowered.com/app/227080/ It's about a kid whose father is an alcoholic, so the kid flees to a dream world. I did not play it so far, either, but the first minutes also had that captivating vibe like "Brothers".

- "Shadow of the Colossus" (only on Playstation 2/3/4(?)), you wander through an (sometimes eerily) void land, looking for huge(!) beings to kill them.

EDIT: the way Steam displayed my links (with the price tag and all that), looks like I want to sell them to you, but I assure you, I just wanted to link you to some informative sub page, but was too lazy to link directly to each trailer :P Well, maybe it's not that bad that you can see the price directly, so I keep the links like that.

Thanks guys for the recommendations, definitely going to try Journey and To the moon. I'll likely get to the others eventually as well.
@Arigatoor Actually nice that I can see the price tags right away, happy to learn that none of these games are overly expensive.

@BurningAlive, I have a leftover Humble Bundle Gift Key for "To The Moon". I cannot use it anyways as I already had bought it on steam before I got the bundle (I could try to trade it but looking several hours through steam trading forums for the purpose of finding someone who offers a 5$ game I am interested in return is not really for me :P).
So I would be happy to gift it to you.

Wow, I almost don't know what to say. Thankyou, for a start. Not everyday you encounter that kind of generosity online. I'd like that, though I hope you'll let me add you so I can return the favor at some point.

Thanks for your kind words! I am going to send you a message soon.
I should stress that I did not play through "To The Moon" (also played only the first hour of "Papo&Yo" and "Two Brothers") so I do not know for sure if it is really able to envoke similar emotions as "Brothers" and as far as I played, it appears to be a bit "cheesy" in some regards (sad piano music right at the beginning), but I read that many people who played through it did name it as a recommendation for fans of "Brothers" in other threads.
