The DRM is needed, because it´s no Steam game. (I still don´t understand, why people buy games over Steam, if it´s not necessary.)
And what happens when the company has gone out of business?

When you have reached all in offline what you can reach, there´s just the Archmage-AI in Singleplayer-Single-Duel (an awesome AI!), that you can train with...
So no, I don´t recommend you to do something illegal, just buy it, and start like me with only offline-play, and after some time you will automatically click Multiplayer...(even if not, you will not miss the money for all the offline-stuff you have played!)
