That’s extremely impressive; congrats you must technically be the first to unlock that Achievement. Any tips on how to make the run? Shame you didn't have a recording but definitely understandable.

I'm going to work on mastering the run so I can reproduce it and get a recording. I've got other SHODN videos on my YouTube, /archmage84, so it'll go up there once I get it :P

As for advice, I practiced a LOT on Ninja Domain before succeeding at Ninja Speedrun. The scythe is pretty key, I'm skeptical that sub-6min can be done without it.

There's a lot of little things you can do with it; for example, if you attack in midair right at the apex of your jump, as close to the airspin initiation as possible, you'll go obscenely fast. Again, I'll make a video explaining the tricks and stuff I used.

But yeah. Just practice using scythe, learn to kill stuff with the airspin (because the actual attack is junk), use your boomerang properly, get good boss strats.

Got footage of a faster run, I'm uploading it now. Will post a new discussion when it's up.

Wow, some nice skills you have there to get that time. :D I'm really suprised about you using scythe and boomerang though as they are two weapons I try to stay away from at all times as they are very slow and difficult to use.

Looking forwards to seeing the video. :)

The scythe is the fastest thing in the game. No exceptions. Literally every other weapon is slower.

As for the boomerang, it's one of three reliably reusable ranged weapons, has great range, goes through walls and doesn't have any downsides.
Zekvich Aug 18, 2013 @ 6:03am
Well the boomerangs down side is that you have to wait to reuse it but I guess once you get used to that its good i'll have to begin using the scythe though as it probably will pay off when I learn how to use it properly. :)

Why bomb+ though? suprised you don't use sticky bombs/ molotov.

As little as I actually use projectiles, waiting for a boomerang to come back is no issue at all. And it has one HUGE advantage on Doom and Disgust, in that if you get the distance just right, you can rack up, like, 3-5 hits or something from a single throw. Also useful for Torment since no matter when you throw it, you're guaranteed at least one hit, two if you time the first to hit him right before he turns around.

Bomb+ because you don't have to wait for detonation. My go-to bombs. I recently tried Chaos Mode, and using something different, I just couldn't get used to it. Too slow, and I would just give up on whatever I expected to blow up. Plus you have to aim everything just right to get the explosion where you want it, whereas with Bomb+, it's much easier to hit what you want. Even stuff in the air.

I'm not the speedrunner here, but I definitely see some of the reasons behind the choices. If I could get used to the scythe rather than my usual nunchuks, I could probably get somewhere up there, too. But I just can't get any other weapon to feel right for me.

I'm a big fan of the bomb+ too, although I can see the attraction of the dynamite for speedrunners as it allows you to create your own route. It's great to see some variety in the weapon selections that players are using. :)

Nicely done - very creative use of the scythe! Looks like you could save a fair bit of time fighting the One-Armed Ninja though. :)

Thank you! I panicked on the One-Armed Ninja D:

I haven't quite got the hang of optimising his fight, I'm sure he could go down in two cycles with some practice. But yeah... at that point I was NOT going to risk a strat I hadn't practiced.
rpgamer987 Aug 18, 2013 @ 10:00pm
I'm also sure he can go down in two, but I haven't been able to pull it off, except maybe one time a super long time ago. Definitely possible to hit twice with a down strike. But I've never been able to do it consistently. Often I'll pull it off once, but still get stuck with that one last hit point after the second cycle.

I made a level called One-Armed Ninja Arena, if you need to practice him it would probably help you out:

The video is great, I never knew you could use the scythe like that.

Spite with bomb+ was a really nice kill and much faster than my strategy of just slashing him all the time.

Arbarghus tact was also something never seen before using the wind spell :o pretty amazing video really.

The one armed ninja I managed to kill in 3 hits but yes I do reckon you can do it in two as with the scythes down attack it sometimes does 2 hits leaving him with 4 bars but I can't replicate it on the second hit. :/

Anyway the run was awesome and I have picked up a few tips and tricks from it, good luck on your next run.

I am still just progressing with hard difficulty so this is crazy.
