please don't play TL or SL just to get a Thompson
I see this so many times. Someone picks a leadership class because they want the "cool" guns and they completely ignore what the job is. SLs really need to be spotting for arty, making sure smoke is deployed and staying alive for mobile squad respawn. Not running around playing rambo.

indeed! i seen too many sl or tl to just run around and spray everything with thompson.. forgetting their real reason. but.. what you can do.. almost every game goes like CoD or BF.. you going to see lots of brainless kids who play only because weapon or its just cool.

And there's the difference between a good player and a bad player in any team based tactical game (espicially RO2 and RS).

A bad player thinks of himself: How can I get another kill? He or she will be the player that crouches in the corner of the map with a sniper rifle or refuses to go after objectives or takes vital team equipment like the tank or sniper rifle or squad leader and then mindlessly lone wolfs it and gets the equipment destroyed or killed for no benefiet. It doesn't matter if you are 28 - 1, if the team loses YOU LOSE.

A good player thinks of the team and victory: Will this kill help my team gain the next objective? Where is the objective and can I get to it? Am I supporting my teammates by covering them so that they can also advance? Am I communicating with my team to show them where the threats are and encourage them to exploit the enemies weaknesses? Am I listening to the squad leader and working with my squad? Am I using my equipment to best help the team (if I'm an MG or a sniper am I in the best position to deny the enemy ground)? Good players will not necessarily have good scores. Good players do win games though.

There's a difference between knowing how to click a button on the mouse and knowing how to win the game. If you're not going to play as a team and try to help the team win then go play singleplayer and spawncamp bots to your hearts content.

Encouraging players to play as a team through mic chat is good as long as people do not resort to trying to 'boss players around for the sake of it'. Do not try to give extremely specific instructions. Give general instructions (e.g. Please flank to the side of the objective, we have them pinned OR please throw your grenades BEFORE we storm the position OR use the smoke cover to advance and try to take out that MG guarding the ridge).

Excellent points and very well said. I've seen far too many players ignore defending a point and just camping somewhere along the side with the goal simply to farm kills for themselves. You should really consider posting this in a guide, a beginners guide for players whom have no previous experiance in gaming as towards a tactical goal rather than K/D ratio.

Yes and your job as a SL is to STAY ALIVE to allow your team mates to spawn on you, mark arti and THROW smoke.
Beyond Human May 21, 2013 @ 5:13am
I agree but I doubt these kind of people will be considerate enough to not pick TL and SL roles. ME WANT THOMPSON!!! WAHHH!
Truther May 21, 2013 @ 5:17am
Yeah being a pre order holder of RO2 sense they gave a few free weekends I have seen a masive amount of new younger people playing that have no idia what they are doing it really dose mess things up at least go watch some you tube videos on how to play if you dont already. If you ask me the younger generation is ruining gaming due to massive amounts of console players coming to PC and crying about how everything needs to be simplified and dumbed down its sad.

I really dont see an end to it though. Whoever loads the map quickest, for better or worse will most likely get those roles.I think it will be a mix of good and bad squad leaders, as it usually is.

Usually depending on my mood I'll play rifleman so I don't take any flak from teammates saying I'm not doing my job or if I can't use the mic for some reason. I have a SSD and load times are quick for me and I can pick Com, Sniper, and Flamer if I wanted to but I want other people to enjoy those classes.
DaCrazyDingo May 21, 2013 @ 1:31pm
I'm glad other people see it this way. I played a SL last night and was top of the server because the TL was communicating as to where he need arty marks and my squad was always spawning on me. An arty barrage followed by smoke and a charge backed by a force respawn available was money. We took pelielu so fast it wasn't even funny. The Japanese team was ♥♥♥♥♥ing up a storm. Also Supressing fire. Seriously it works.

I take the SL role alot because I want the Thompson, but I do what Im suppose to do as an SL. Even if it most of the time isnt a total sucess.
I try to give ordes and stuff but most of the time players ignore you and only sometime (maybe) the will attack when you tell them to.

But my greatest love is playing flamer, but hard to do good whitout help from teammates.
