Well, you got lucky, becasue I've hit quite a few bugs. From faulty Arkfalls (the Hellion's body is in mid-air and the glands are near impossible to hit) to glitches that send a player back so far on a co-op map that the group has to quit the run and start over. I've even had Sieges get stuck. Hell, right now there's a glitch that makes it impossible to complete one of the Volge Persuits. But I expect bugs in an MMO, and like you I've never really been a fan of MMOs in general. Partly because I dislike subscriptions and partly becasue I'm often prefer to play solo.
But Trion is fixing the bugs as they get reports of them, and it's still a fun game to play.
It's set in an open online world but the player interaction is so incredibly rudimental that there is basically no room for the usual issues many MMOs suffer from.
But to get back to topic, while i never really understood the mentality of flamers they are in every game especially in the online genre.
The people simply enjoying the game don't really have a reason to raise their voice because... well they like the game.
People who come to dislike it often feel mistreated or misinformed in some way and tend to start discussions about it.
A: It doesn't just kill me because I'm not at X skill level (It kills me because I've made a tactical mistake... Like running into a Dark Matter Arkfall with a cluster of Ark-Enhanced gits)
B: I don't have to listen to a bunch of chinese goldspammers and 13 year olds whining for groups, gold or help.
C: People on Defiance automatically help each other without needing to talk. Alot of the times I've played an Arkfall with around 50 people and not a single word was spoken. Everyone fought together, healed each other and rezzed without speaking to each other. Awesomely powerful stuff.
Oh, and there is the whole 'Wizz bang shooty fun without feeling like I HAVE to grind to level up' aspect too.
What I do find find totalling baffling is the after-sale marketing. I play more than enough to justify paying a little for a new outfit or two purely for eye candy, but the prices are just extortionate - and you still have to pay for the bloody hat on top! Pay-for lock-boxes, as anyone who has played for a while will know, are a total waste of time. So who is buying that stuff?! Likewise the upgrade kit. Pack half a dozen outfits (hats and shades included!) for a tenner, though, and I'd be queuing up to pay.
I remember the advertisements for Global Agenda, that was the best description i can give to this game essentailly, no Cast bars and no Mages... i like this game because its fun in terms of exploring and you can have a decent amount of fun with friends no matter what level they are.
you can always die from seemingly low level characters, even in duels or deathmatch or even in open world you can die, its not like your going to tank for them and not worry about your shields dying.
the game has its ups and downs, but thats any other game in its own way... at least here you can play a shooter without having to deal with the voice chat system that ruins the fun.
Got way more game time out of defiance (recently added it to steam btw) than i would have with bioshock...and defiance is a game ill go back to..where bioshock i wouldnt have after beating it.
Its a pretty fun game...like guild wars 2 but with guns.
Lacks a long mmorpg storyline though...youll burn through content kind of quick...but its still a good game to putz around on and do all the side stuff and challanges...
Its certainly not an unfun game, nor was it ever...i think the games biggest issue is that Trion made it, and they make MMORPG games, and so a lot of MMORPG players tried it expecting that...and it kind of was but wasnt a good mmorpg...where its a really good TPS game that isnt based on pvp matches ect...
so you had a lot of "this game sucks im going back to wow" kind of hate thrown on the game...and it really is a good alternative to GW2...and that community is really savage with tearing down other games...so it got a lot of heat from those people.
The only thing they did wrong was offer it for the xbox, yeah they got more sales but if it was just PS3/4 and PC everyone could have played together like with FFXIV...and that is awesome imo...shame microsoft doesnt allow that.
For what they are charging now for the game...if the sound of driving aroudn running over bug monsters, jumping your car or atv off cliffs, and comming across 75 people and some massive enemies sounds interesting...and you like PVE based TPS combat...you would be stupid not to pick this game up for its price...most of the cash shop stuff is looks or repainted cars/atvs you can get in game (and you can unlock deco stuff from clearing content) Lock boxes can be bought for rewards from doing the dynamic events so there is zero reason to pay for them (no you dont need keys to unlock you oddly enough use keys to buy them, which drop in game)
Oh and a really cool and diverse set of weapons...i think i have something like 110 weapons in my inventory and i only have duplicates of a few (game has in interesting level up think on weapons which gives it a bonus but then stopps advancing your character weapon skill if used so spares with no XP is must)
