Using Wine
I just bought this game but it fails to let me download because it lacks linux support, even though I can run it through a windows emulator called wine for linux. Any help would be great.

Get windows is the only advice I can give, it is a WINDOWS game. A windows emulator on linux does not act as an entire installation of windows which includes its internet security functions that Trion games (and many others) use to access their host servers for gameplay and installations.

If a game doesn't say Linux Support anywhere on it, don't buy it expecting 100% functionality. Sorry.

SteamOS (based on linux) is comming out soon we should have that game too. Open systems have faster development (like apache, android and others).

For now we keep with wine, winetricks, playonLinux, Cedega and last option VM or DualBoot with windows.

I'm sorry, but these words don't belong in the same sentence together...

I try contact with tryonworlds (today) asking if there is a chance that defiance could be released to SteamOS.

Dr. Wes Snyder V, Maintainer of Defiance on WINE, tell that didn't test last wine version with the game.

I'm not sure how compatible Defiance is with wine (Rift, another Trion game, worked alright, fwiw), but the OP's problem was that they needed to run the Windows version of Steam through Wine in order to download Windows-specific games.

Acutally, this thread was about not figuring out that you don't even need Steam to download the game.

Why not just get Linux??? Heck, it's FREE! It's easy to install, if you're not a total mouth-breathing M-O-R-O-N. (Even a Windows user knows how to click "Next > Next > Next > Finish".) It even allows you to keep your precious Windows intact and unharmed.
