Defiance

"CRITICAL... The Defiance Service is not Available. Try again later"...
Ok... really like the Show (great cast, great acting, great environment... shaping up to be a classic Si-Fi seiries)... so, i thought i'd try the game, since FTP (reviews look pretty good, for a "linked game").

- Downloaded: 30 minutes @ 6.79MB/s
- Clicked on Game
- Requires an online Registration that includes e-mail (pretty standard for FTP). [ENTER]
- Downloaded: Glyph
- Hit PLAY...
- Glyph Downloaded Patch: 10 minutes total time @6.79MB/s (patch + install)
- Hit PLAY...
- Dev splash screens + Game splash screen
- "CRITICAL... The Defiance Service is not Available. Try again later"
- Try(ed) again later...Try(ed) again later...Try(ed) again later... = Fail...Fail...Fail !
- Connection Times Out

Checked that my firewall has added exceptions normally (like all my other online games)... Launcher and Game exceptions have been added successfully.

Searched term online: "CRITCAL... The Defiance Service is not Available. Try again later" ... revealed many, many varieties in solutions but, one of the solutions was, "check file integrity"

Steam said: "67 files" did not pass the check "and will be automatically downloaded"

Clicked on game...
... and again...

- Downloaded: 30 minutes @ 6.79MB/s
- Clicked on Game
- Entered registered email + password... Success
- Downloaded: Glyph
- Hit PLAY...
- Glyph Downloaded Patch: 10 minutes total time @6.79MB/s (patch + install)
- Hit PLAY...
- Dev splash screens + Game splash screen
- "CRITICAL... The Defiance Service is not Available. Try again later"
- Try(ed) again later...Try(ed) again later...Try(ed) again later... = Fail...Fail...Fail !
- Connection Times Out

...hit Steam "check file integrity" button once again... OOP's!!... about half through the "integrity check", i remembered something from another game i had several years ago, where Steam implemented a poorly thought out/written collaberation, in the way Steams software "verifies files" and the games launcher/patcher downloads and talks to Steam...

... i immediately hit CANCEL... TO LATE... !!!

Clicked on game...
... and again(s)...

- Downloaded: 30 minutes @ 6.79MB/s
- Clicked on Game
- Entered registered email + password... Success
- Downloaded: Glyph
- Hit PLAY...
- Glyph Downloaded Patch: 10 minutes total time @6.79MB/s (patch + install)
- Hit PLAY...
- Dev splash screens + Game splash screen
- "CRITICAL... The Defiance Service is not Available. Try again later"
- Try(ed) again later...Try(ed) again later...Try(ed) again later... = Fail...Fail...Fail !
- Connection Times Out

If anyone else has experienced this and can offer a solution... i would still like to play the game... and since (obviously) others are online right meow in the thousands enjoying the game, i will not pass on the possibility that my experience is isolated and maybe due to an issue in my area of the "North American" region?... or some obscure harware conflict.

THanks

P.s. I have no Router, a single connection, all of my other online games perform well... Defiance "service not available" (seems pretty specific)... and since the "connection" says it "times out" i must be able to connect at some level to "a server".

Never had these issues unless the server is genuinely down for maintenance (which happens weekly like all MMOs).

The only thing I can come up with is you're not able to reach the login server which could be due to the fact that you're either in a country that doesn't allow the game, or you're trying to connect in a way that isn't allowed.

@+ VLFBERHT + The server was most likely in its daily restart at that time.

also the files on the Steam servers are out of date thats why when you run the game the glyph launcher gets installed and gets the uptodate files, verifying thes files in the Steam client will just delete all game files and replace them with the one on the Steam content servers which will be replace again when you go to run it with Glyph and its updated files.

This is a known problem with most games that have a 3rd party launcher's to start and patch the game's.

also " and since the "connection" says it "times out" i must be able to connect at some level to "a server"." no you are infact incorrect as the connection to the server isnot made it times out on trying to connect.
you are not connectead untill you see the character creation / select screen

THanks for good info

Tried to get log-on appx 12 hours apart without success.

Will reinstall game one more time and try again.

Ok, I see (makes sense). That the client frontend with the "service not available" pop-up IS NOT an indication that i actually had logged on, but was only an indicator of a failed logon... guess im used to seeing "server" not available instead of "service..." with other games i own, (lol)

P.s. Thanks for info on your experience with "most" 3rd party launchers and will keep that in mind next time it happens [with other games].
