I don't think the game makes enough money to warrent an engine upgrade.

since it costed all most 500 mil to make and promote....yep, plus the content you do pay for is very pricy, if they had a middle ground that wasn't a cash grab and players would like. they'd would make more cash

Yes but they would need to put more money into the game to upgrade the engine and all the assets. So yes 500 mil plus whatever the cost would be to do what you're asking. So no it doesn't warrant the money for the amount of players that play.
Nope. Engine overhaul and optimizations would take time, resources and actual effort, and Trion won't have any of that. Most importantly, such quality of life improvements won't bring any money in the long run. Now, slapping an update that brings a couple new locations and items? More money-milking options, now that's a worthy venture.

This game is still running on the lowest expence possible probably.. they are running less servers are possible and just keep it running for those who actually play. But they are not making much money with theses to expect that a big awesome patch with engine update and everything will ever happen. The game sunk too early after release to the point they made an attempt to make it F2P to gather more players (which barely worked unfortuantely). This game has no future. We can be happy that they haven't shutdown servers before. I guess it's already a major feature to still have them up... don't expect more than this.

I realized that as soon as I started playing. The animation is extremely choppy and laughable in spots. Like others have said, the playerbase is far too small to warrant any significant updates. So were stuck with this rapidly aging game, unfortunately.

saddly. even if they did small updates here and there. it would be better

Trion is absolutely crap at maintaining their games, just look at RIFT that WAS a great game until it took Trion years to make even the smallest amount of content

well that's not a good sign
