DayZ 1.7.7 too hard?
Nope. You just have to understand it and read the patch notes.

* [NEW] - 6 New "Viral" zeds - They are harder to kill, they do more damage, and they have a higher chance of causing an infection... be afraid. (Headshot will kill in one shot)
* [NEW] - Weapons spawns now have a chance to spawn with 0 mags up to a max of 2.
* [NEW] - Zeds hitting through Walls/Buildings should now be fixed.
* [NEW] - FPS Monitor this will dynamicly change how/total amount of zeds/loot/trash is spawning to keep the players base fps up.
* [NEW] - Blood from food and transfusions will now generate over time (no longer instant).
* [NEW] - All food types now have a diminishing effect so the more you try and eat at once, the less blood you will get in return.

* [FIXED] - Loot Spawns have now been fully resolved. Buildings are now tagged and will not spawn any new loot for 15 minutes.
* [UPDATED] - Zed sight limited to 100 meters.
* [UPDATED] - Bleed from zed attacks will now only happen if the initial dmg is above 0.7 or the zed gives a head shot. (should reduce the amount of bandages needed)
* [UPDATED] - Zeds knocking players unconscious now has a 50/50 chance if damage multiplier is above > 0.8
* [UPDATED] - When unconscious all damage is reduced to 50 blood for each hit zeds do no matter the part they hit. (Should allow some survivability)
* [UPDATED] - Zeds sight and sound chance has been re-added so there is a chance they can ignore you.
* [UPDATED] - More lootable buildings (Iron barn, car wrecks, several non enterable buildings...)

Other notes:
- In the current 1.7.7 build, zeds got a bit fubared and the few active coders we have are working on fixing that asap.

Edit; 1.7.7 HOTFIX HIGHLIGHTS:
* [FIXED] - Crashsite loot spawn fixed.
* [FIXED] - Blood transfusion should now work properly.
* [FIXED] - Zeds can knock you unconscious again.
* [FIXED] - Changing clothes while in a gear menu of a pile/vehicle/tent will no longer crash your game.
* [FIXED] - 100% damaged vehicles do not respawn anymore.
* [FIXED] - Added check to make sure no one is within 30 meters of zed spawning.
* [FIXED] - Added a range check to zed attacks, no more 5-10m hits. (We Hope)
* [FIXED] - Fixed issue where your player's body would be deleted if aborting too quickly.
* [FIXED] - Zeds full scale damage reverted to 100% was 50% in .7.

* [UPDATED] - Rest to provide a 1% chance to cure infection (Can only be done once every 5 mins)
* [UPDATED] - More reliable loot spawns.
* [UPDATED] - Infection rates are much lower (based on #zeds attacking you) viral zeds have 4x greater infection rates
* [UPDATED] - player knockdown by zeds should be less common.
* [UPDATED] - Zed Target system updated to include movement speed changes. above 10m = full speed, above 2.2m and below 10m = Approach speed, below 2.2 = Attack speed.
* [UPDATED] - Attack system updated to include LOS & Angle of attack checks as the animation is run to make sure player is only damaged/knockdown if they meet both conditions.

the new viral zombies make things more interesting, for sure.

I'm not quite sure how this FPS monitor works - does this mean if I get a low FPS less zombies and loot spawn where I am? And what if I'm playing alongside someone with a high FPS, I guess thats why I've been at 20 FPS some places and there's beeen hoardes of the buggers.

only thing I've really noticed are more viral zombies, which is just a change, imho making solo play a little more of a challenge, and not in a bad way.

I'm pretty sure the FPS monitoring is for the server. When the server FPS is low, the server will spawn less stuff in general, to gain performance. So even if you are having really high or REALLY low FPS, it's not going to affect you, or the loot around you.

The ratio of viral Zeds to normal Zeds is wonky. I got trapped in a barn with 5 viral Zeds and one normal one. not to mention the fact said group chased me for like 5km...I tried every trick to lose them and not a single one worked. I liked the increased diffulty of Zeds but perhaps rather than going from a minor annoyance to a bigger threat than bandits they should have upped the challenge slowly?
Also the loot table seems to have changed dramatically, with any form of weapon being rare and empty cans being all over the place. I can't even find food or drink, which isn;t helped by a lack of spawn items.
Not to sound like a rant, but such an increase in diffulty has been somewhat overwhelming. We went from Normal to Nightmare and had no way to prepare.

i dont like some of the changes. I think the game was fine as long as the zombies went. I think that the zombies should not really be the major issue. It should be scavaging, and other players.

I hope you're prepared for the Standalone, then. It'll be about as difficult, if not moreso. (Not in terms of loot being rare, but with over 10 real diseases with separate cures for all of them, along with weather conditions gaining more depth, etc. Clothing can get damp and so on.)

It's a zombie survival. The zombies are going to be the main threat.

You're better off not using the Steam version at all.

And the zombies were apparently nerfed too much. Only the viral ones are a threat anymore.

These Zeds would chase me for miles, i would run through every bush and tree, i use more bullets on zombies than players. i dont like the new Zeds, I can't loot because there are 15 zombies chasing me andi only have 5 bullets, sort of ridiculous how much dificult they are.

DayZ is a zombie survival game. They are supposed to be difficult.
In the Standalone, Rocket wants to make the zombies the main threat, not the players.

The bush/tree thing has been fixed. You can no longer hide in a tree or run through bushes(for the most part) to get rid of the zombies. Of course, in thick forests it isn't impossible to cut the line of sight.

If you can't avoid the zombies, you will have to face your premature death.

Version 7 is going to put a lot of new players off less loot tougher zeds makes getting off the first step of the ladder extremly time consuming and many will be going through the dying respawning cycle many times without getting anywhere and not really experiencing any fun factor, I am not sure how many servers are going to be sticking with version 6 but my advice to new players is to start at the ones who still run it.
