tl;dr Ace of Spades is fun, for about the first 20 hours or so, but it fails to deliver on it's promises and leaves you unsatisfied and wishing you stuck with Minecraft and TF2 instead.
This game is unique, don't get me wrong, with teabagging actually earning points, exploding graves and fully destructible environments and a great 1 min to go music score making the end of a game frantic and fun. The editor is really great too and some of the less played game-modes (destruction, VIP, Diamond Mine) are actually more fun than TDM and Zombies.
There are only 4 classes, and that isn't a bad thing, but 2 of those classes are basically useless. The engineer for example, moves so slowly and because of their jetpack, snipers can easily bag a headshot on them, plus their submachine gun sucks and takes 1 clip to kill someone to the face. And this class, meant to be the engineer and primary base maker, only begins with 1000 blocks, which is roughly enough to build 2 large walls. And this class is meant to be balanced because it is the fastest. Yeah, no. The engineer is so slow, and in a deathmatch is only useful at the start of a large map when trying to get to the enemies base to camp there.
In fact, let me skip why the other classes are bad at the moment and talk about camping and level design:
From the first map you play, you realise that most maps are balanced in favour of the the Green team, leaving them high up positions with the Blue down on low positions. This is heavily shown on the Arctic Base map, where the Greens literally shoot on top of the Blues spawnpoint, leaving them only a few seconds of invincibility to sprint to some cover or to attempt a flanking manoveur, which is really the only way to beat the Greens in that map. Other maps do the same sort of thing as well.
Not only are the map designs fairly bad but the base-camping is horrendous, not only is base-camping one of the main ways to let your team win but the exploding graves and environments literally dig a hole for the team having their base camped, making sure that it takes too long to dig yourself out and leaving yourself as easy pickings.
Let me get back to the classes now:
The miner, is also pretty useless, as not only is it's most powerful weapon/tool horribly nerfed and the shotgun useless unless sneaking up behind people but it's shovel takes too long to mine and the timebombs do jack to the environment and take up to 10 seconds to explode, not to mention the level design leaves most maps at the bottom of the world height.
The commando and the sniper are really the only classes to choose from, with the commando being rediculously overpowered with a rocket launcher and minigun, but the sniper's 1 kill headshot leave you ducking and weaving all the time.
Also with the classes, the choose your own weapon has so little use it may as well not be there, with only literally 2 things to pick from from each sub-category (primary weapon, secondary weapon, melee, grenade and blocks) and normally the ones you begin with are the best anyways.
There is also a level-up system which is more competitive statistics building, but doesn't work on most servers and all Australian servers.
And while there are many game-types, the only ones that are populated are TDM and Zombies, with Zombies being overpowered and generally not fun because of their insane speed, health and power, plus the limited ammo, health and block building limit of the main survivors.
