I just love this game. If I look at the info Steam provides me, I played over 122 hours of this game... and I still am NOT bored!!!
Most games these days last maybe 20 hrs around cost often over 5 times the price of Gnomoria... so you sure get more than your money's worth with this game.
What about the game itself: basically it is a "Dwarf Fortress clone" with very nice looking "retro" graphics intead of ASCII symbols. It is not as complex and "deep" as DF, but this game is also still in the early access stage. The developer seems to be intentioned to add many more features in the (hopefully near) future.
In any case: AS IS the game is already huge fun!
Actually I ma very thrilled to see what the developer will add next (I have read rumors of magic and more complex diplomacy coming into the gameplay and I am quite excited about that).
One thing I like a lot is CUSTOMIZABLE DIFFICULTY: not only you can choose how hard the enemies are and how pentyful or scarce the raw materials are, but you can also select the mobs you want in the game. Want goblins and Mants to harrass you but you want to dig for metals in peace? Select only goblins and mants as enemies! Want hardcore gaming? You can have that too! Or, if you like the casual gameplay, you can have a relaxing peaceful game with no mobs at all. Although games like minecraft give some of these options, Gnomoria makes it much more tunable and customizable!
As it is you can really customize your game as it suits your gaming needs.
There are some minorr bugs and glitches here and there, but nothing really game breaking. The game is stable and smooth... although I am experiencing a bit of a slowdown (nothing major) if I have many gnomes or have dug really deep. I must mention my system is not top notch, hence better systems might not have this poblem.
NOTE: I must say that from v.0.9.17 onward the problem mentioned above has certainly been improved a lot.
In any case the game works great.
As I have seen until now, the developer(s) are still working on it actively, interact with the gamers, hence it seems to me this is a game that will suffer death by abbandonment some early access games suffer.
Also this game, in terms of development, reminds me of Minecraft: a fully playable fun game, with more content always on the way.
I can only recommend this game!
AS IS, it is already a great game and my 122+ hours of gameplay at this moment is a testament that this game does not bore easily, especially if you are into games like Dwarf Fortess and similar stategy games.
