Wheelbarrow Blues
Welp, right off the bat the wheelbarrow has given me trouble. It was amazing watching someone haul the entire strawberry field in three trips, but I can't designate them in any way, so they ditched it in a corner for some reason and I can't make anyone pick it up or move it. Sigh.

I'm still not over the fact that 1 gnome can do the work of 30 in hauling. It's so beautiful I think I feel a tear coming..

I am now having problems of Gnomes ditching Wheelbarrows and refusing to use them, ever. If I craft new ones, my haulers will opt to use them, but it seems the moment they drop it for any reason (such as being scared by enemies), it's as if it doesn't exist to them yet it's just sitting there.

Is there intended/should there be some way to assign them to certain gnomes or professions either exclusively or as a priority over others?
I have had mine abandon them after a while, but when they do whatever other jobs are set them come and pick them up and put them in where I have my spare tools and such stored before someone else comes along and starts using them again. [edit: Just a coincidence it was the tool one, three of mine got dumped in other storage areas as well since]

Also it seems that they only use them for things that would be stored in a crate (?). They won't pick up things like tree cuttings with them.

Would love to know if they are treated as "Tools", but the only solution I have so far is to sell them to themerchant and make more...

For the most part my Gnomes now seem to use wheelbarrows more properly, but there's still 1 specific wheelbarrow that the gnomes believe to be cursed and therefore will never touch, ever. I even replaced the dirt under it just in case if it would fix it. All other wheelbarrows work fine.

It's also worth noting that not everything is carried by wheelbarrows. It is mostly items that are stored in crates, but it is also soil and raw stone.

However, I am also noticing Gnomes opting to carry items that have been proven to be wheelbarrow friendly, despite having plenty of wheelbarrows around.
As far as I can tell, the wheelbarrow is just a glorified crate, as gnomes won't haul things that are stored in bags and barrels with the wheelbarrow, like seeds or cotton.

Also, there's no listing for them in the stockpile menu, so you can't make a dropoff point/storage place for them.

Still, when they work, they're awesome.

I'd like to mention that all should be wary of Wheelbarrows ATM. Many users are reporting a crash (happened to me as well!) after crafting wheelbarrows. I'm guessing they may be fixed during next week's patch. Some are selling their barrows off to merchants for now.

As far as I read, the game was already patched to fix (most) of the crashing issues. I also managed to play the game perfectly fine when wheelbarrows came out (The game actually updated WHILE I was playing.. I had wheelbarrows suddenly in my craft list without re-opening the game or anything. Steam also downloaded the 8.48.1 patch fix while I was playing, which seemed to fix most of my wheelbarrows not being used.)

Still using them, and everything is working fine. I however can't sell mine to the trader, possibly I need to make a new map.

At the moment, all my soldiers have unequipped their weapons, and will not take them back, except one, who equipped two tin swords, contrary to the orders of using other weapons. I do not remember building tin swords, but two iron swords for another gnome. Also, their uniform was reset, but not the weapons, just armor. They kept the armor but dropped the weapons, and will not take them back.
I think this could be something to do with the wheelbarrow thing, because the problem started at the same time, and behaves the same.
Update: Found the problem, not about equipped items behaving like wheelbarrows, but the soldiers screen overrides the individual armor choices, and forces them on every other squad, so creating 1 soldier with 2 swords and creating a new squad makes every soldier drop their axes and equip swords instead, which I had only 2 of. So, lots of unarmed (and dead) gnomes.

wheelbarrows are a bit buggy. I have been building a crapload of em and they are working pretty well. As with Paladin, I have one that is just sitting there totally abandoned. The other 12 are working well. I dont know the logic to their use or if there is a range check before a gnome decides to us one. I figure the more I build the better the odds of use.

Currently I have six wheelbarrows... sadly five of them are sitting in fields unused.
Zalzany 2 sierpnia 2013 o 22:11
They are buggy but worth it, only need one functioning to improve gather time, 6 active ones just sounds like over kill to me.
Hello Sailor 2 sierpnia 2013 o 23:22
Wheelbarrows stop working if they get used to haul dirt/clay.

This appears to be because wheelbarrows and soil stockpiles are both pseudocrates (watch really closely when a gnome puts the first clod of soil in a stockpile). I'm guessing he'll have it fixed in the next update, he just needs to add a fourth container type exclusive to soil instead of reusing the crates. Wheelbarrows just won't be able to haul soil anymore until he comes up with a more robust container system.
lPaladinl 3 sierpnia 2013 o 7:03
It's not just soil, my gnomes aren't even hauling soil anymore and they still tend to ditch their wheelbarrows in stockpiles, for any resources, and not picking them up.

I even have a wheelbarrow that is glitched at the carpenter that made it, it wasn't even used and somehow was put into the state that causes gnomes to ignore it.
