Defending against a seige
So my kingdom worth just hit 30K, and the best weapon I have is 2 Bronze Swords, neary everyone is poorly equiped and trained. The goblins have become such a problem that my multi-teired gate system isnt enough to hold them back any more. I decided to wall off completely, but am worried about having a ton of creatures just waiting for me to open up.

Heres the point, I notice that they like to kill Yaks, and Yaks are easy to breed, once you get them going, if I make 3 pastures, 1 for keeps, 1 for breeding inside the wall, and 1 large one out side the wall, they should help quell the numbers of creatures a little bit right? And when I break the wall I can set it so I only lose 1 dwarf, and they can murder all the outer yaks outside first, before I send in the real troops.

The benifit I see to this is that...
Yaks Breed, period, but also fairly quickly
Yaks are free
Yaks fight back when attacked
The enemy will bleed out even after they kill a few yak.
Doesnt evey army need cannon fauder?

Indeed, yaks are excellent cannon fodder that you can snack on after. Also a good way to get Noteable enemies for the Kill list. After about 8-12 kills they gain a reputation and a name.

Walling yourself off is a good tactic too, if the monsters dont starve they tend to kill off one another before you have to open up to let in a merchant or gnomad.

I noticed one of the Yaks I turned into meat had a named bone peice, I only noticed when I turned it into a helmet. Also curiously enough one of my doors has a name as well...

Good to know they die off eventually, I was worried they would just sit out there and rally troops, unleashing the flood should I wait to long to open up. I dont like the idea of completely walling off, so i try to avoid it as much as possiable, but eventually ddecided to do it since I'm still a noob at the game.
