Question about tools
What do gnomes use tools for? (ex: pickaxe, felling axe, etc.,) Are they just for mining rock/dirt, cutting trees, etc., or are they required for workshops as well?

They are used for for mining and tree felling as well as improvised weapons.

How do I force them to use weapons? They all have set uniforms with equipment set to specific items, which I have an abundance of, tones of Copper weapons from goblins, yet they wont use them, some even preffer to not use any armor, even though I have a tone of bone armor I crafted in Year 1, it just sits in the Armory untouched.

The uniform has to be a type they are set to use. Like if set to greaves they wont wear leather ones. Also Worn weapons are not suitable for use and Gnomes wont use them. They can only be melted down at smelters.

You can also sell them to merchants

Note that the "worn" equipment from goblins are not usable by your gnomes.
Think of these items as tainted - they will not use them. They're only use is for smelting or selling to merchants.
