Just gonna point out the only obvious problem
Gnomes going idle when there are clearly things to do, even when they are prioritized to do so. fix this glitch and it will be a great game, until then it's an utter piece of ♥♥♥♥ and it really brings the game down hardcore like its ridiculous how big of a problem the going idle for no reason thing is in this game.

I couldn't decide whether i was that bad at this game, or it was a mayor bug.
skyte100 Jun 17, 2013 @ 10:57am
No there is not mayor bug. Dwarf Fortress is the only game with a Bug Mayor. Its a parasite bug to. That is why so many of them have to have "Unfortunate Accidents."

They might not actually be idle, sometimes it lists them as idle when they're getting food, a drink, or headed to bed.
Also, are you sure the job you've assigned them falls under their job juristriction? You can change this in the professions menu under population.

yes,. i'm aware of how to assign gnomes to jobs and how to tell what jurisdiction they fall under, it say the job type on every crafting bench/designation

And at the very least every single job i made has hauling in it, so at the very least they should never be idle and always be hauling.

are they upset? check their health. When gnomes are upset they refuse to do any sort of work. Also, how are you "assigning" them jobs (I'm pretty sure you didn't assign a hauling job).
Plasmus Jun 17, 2013 @ 5:50pm
I have had no problems with this, I modify the jobs so like the woodcutter also does some farming.

They also get tired, sometimes they passout from exhaustion, maybe this is why? Though I've noticed it as well, I've never really looked into it. I just assumed they ran out of materials, or were terrified to go into my blood field, just beyond my gate, which is littered with corpses, bones, weapons, and bleeding yaks.

yep you can definitely put hauling at top priority and assign a job to haul only bro. Are you playing the same game as us? lol

nah they are just unresponsive sometimes, like the game is still playable and fun but every once in a while i just have to cancel like all tasks imaginable and reassign gnomes that should already be doing what im just reassigning them to do in the first place.

i have 35 hours into it so far and have not come across that. The only thing I was having trouble with was trying to get them to use equipment when it showed I had a certain amount of items, it turns out you own any item that had dropped anywhere on the map, make sure your gnomes can get to it and it will work itself out.

Also be aware, gnomes do tasks according to two main criteria (assuming they can do the job) the priority and how close the job is.

idk ur just kind of lying to yourself if you say the gnomes arent unresponsive, i've played about 20 hours of it now and maxxed out technology and it's an obvious problem. lol

The only gnome i ever see idle (not counting going to get rood or rest) is the merchant that is locked in until the first day of the season. Btw a good use of the great hall is to see what gnomes are idle if you dont want to check the list. If your gnomes are not doing what you think they should be doing you need to re-evaluate your priority values on workshops/sites as well as the custom priority/job selection of your gnomes.

I had this same issue. I overcame this by creating a new profession with all the boxes checked and changed them to that and when i need something specific something done change someone to a specilized role and assigned them to the task. Seems to work for me.

I had this problem during my very first game.I believe it's not a bug, it's just theg gnomes weren't managed properly. The game aint gonna play itself you know.
