Gnomoria

PSA: If you are having long mining times with mods installed...
Please post System Information (cpu, video card, ram, etc.) and Operating System here!

When this v0.9.18 was in the indev branch, we found this bug but were unable to pinpoint the exact source -- it seems to involve some people's computers/games multiplying the strength of stone by 10 which makes each tile take significantly longer to mine... but no one is sure exactly why this is happening. Those of us who have been testing and bug-seeking are trying to gather as much information as possible so that RoboB0b can find a fix.

A note, if this bug is afflicting you, then you can still play unmodded Gnomoria just fine. Mining should also be unaffected if the vanilla materials.xml file is loaded instead of a modded one, though this could break many mods (my own Glassworks included), so it isn't recommended to delete it.

Did you test setting the stone strength to a minimum value so the multiplying will not result in longer mining times?
Does anyone knows the minimum strenght ?

I'm not sure if it would work because the error doesn't occur with my laptop. The minimum I believe should be 0.1 strength I think (stone defaults at 0.7), though it could be lower perhaps.

Well, I tried with 0.07 with an existing save using your mod(so the multiply by ten would result in regular stone strength) but it didn't solve the problem, I will try with a new save and 0.1.

my specs are
i7 860 3,4 ghz (quad core)
Amd 5870hd
4gb ram 1920mhz
2 hard disks in raid0

So my results:
It worked setting all the strength of the blocks with type stone to 0.1 on materials.xml
It works with existing saves, but if you saved when there was a task to mine blocks you may need to Cancel such tasks after the changes are made and the game is loaded. It just need to be done once, all the new tasks will work ok.
The stones may seem too soft tho, sometimes breaking easier than dirt.
In this setting the stones broke in about 10 ingame minutes, with the default setting (0,7) it took 3 ingame hours.
One of the miners has 21 mining skill and the other 26.
Edit: well, it seems it doesn't affect only stone, but dirt too, and probably all the other material types too =/

I figured that would be the case. You'd have to modify all the ores potentially as well and that would probably break the game since metals would be too weak.

Also, what is your Operating System?

Win 8.1 with all updates.

The issue was traced down to being how xml files are loaded on computers with non american numeric format. comma versus period in numbers issue. Robobob stated a fix will be in the next update.

You can change your numeric format settings or manually update xml files for a 'quick fix' if you cant wait for an update.

ty you for the info, seronis!

Nice! Glad to know it's "solved". I'll pass on the info to anyone who asks about it on EspEcon/Reddit.

Not sure if this is the same problem but it behaves a bit like it:

My miners are mining a lot faster than usual when I use mods, and all plants go crazy if I use an agrucultural mod (they grow up in milliseconds in the day and bevave normally in the night). I tried changing . to , to see if it was the same problem but when I did that the game just started crashing when loading the mod with , in it.

I have

cpu: INTEL Core i5 2400 / 3.1 GHz
graphics card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 660 2048MB OC Version
RAM: Corsair XMS3 - 16 GB : 4 x 4 GB - DIMM 240-pin - DDR3
Motherboard: ASUS P8Z68-V Pro
Harddrive the game is installed on: Seagate SSHD Desktop 2 TB 7200 RPM 3,5"
Sound card: Creative Sound Blaster Z PCIe
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro

Could probably add more info so ask if I forgot something relevant...

I seem to have solved it, it was the same problem as the slow mining bug but I had other symptoms for some reason. The crashes was because I accidentally switched one . to many.
