Octodad: Dadliest Catch changes request thread
Thought I'd make a pinned thread to hear what areas of the game people found overly frustrating or needing of improvement. We're open to suggestions, but please keep in mind that some suggestions may not be feasible, nor are we trying to implement every request people make.

Still, we'd love to hear in what ways you think we can improve the game. If we think it's a good idea we will certainly work towards implementing it.

(PS. Please keep this thread civil and try not to argue against each other's suggestions unless you have ideas to build upon it.)

(PSS. I probably won't reply to a lot of suggestions for my own sanity, but we are DEFINITELY reading them and considering them!)

I just finished the game and thought the final boss fight was insanely difficult compared to rest of the game. Especially the part when you are trying to reach Stacy while crawling on the planks in the ceiling, do the planks break and fall randomly? Because is sure seems so. There seemed to be certain spots the planks can break, but they did not do so all the time. Managed to almost get the die 100 times achievement in that single part only.

Maybe I just suck at this game. But that plank part was infuriating in otherwise fun and clever game.

I realize this is probably something that would have to be moved to a sequel, but I'd really like to have more control over the camera. I feel like most of the fun of this game comes from wrestling with the controls, but having to battle the camera to be able to see what you're doing sometimes is more frustrating than funny. An example of this is that after you get the captain's uniform on the boat level, if you try to go back to get the tie (which is much harder to get without the uniform) the camera forces itself into a view where you can't actually see into the crate that the tie is in to grab it.

I wish it would be available for xbox360

i think that at the final boss fight when your wife throws those blow fish at you to put on the fish, you should make it so that she throws them more frequently because i once was there waiting for like almost 5 minuets for her to throw another one and it was quite frusterating

She only throws them to you if you're in her line of sight IIRC.
Absolutely need camera control. The first game had it, and one of the mods in the workshop (the Extreme Physical Challenge or something) adds it back in, so I have no idea why it isn't the main game. Most of the time when I'm frustrated it's because there's something blocking my view or I can't line up a platform right

theres a weird glitch where when i unsubscribe to a level that i downloaded in the workshop, the level is still there and i tried exiting the game and going back in and it is still there

I'm stuck at the free sushi sample. No matter how hard I try I can't make the little guy go fast enough to get away. Perhaps I don't understand the control scheme well enough. In any case it ceased to be fun. I'll poke at it now and then because I would really like to see the rest of the game but for now the good times are gone.

At the part where you sneak into the cafeteria and have to press the alarm, I just couldn't press it. It would give me a millisecond where it would highlight green but I found that I was grabbing everything but it, no matter how high or low my hand was and close to the alarm. Infact, it highlighted more likely for a half second when i let go of something else, and so far I've been stuck on this part of the game as a result.

I figured it was a bug since the alarm got highlighted, making me assume I could press it. Thanks for the insight, i'll try that.
Concerning manual camera control, I have to vote against it. Having to constantly fiddle with the camera would take a lot of the flow out of the game.

In general, the automatic camera works very well. It's just that some spots need fixing. The box with the tie in it on the ship mentioned above is an example, but there are certainly more. I could probably be nudged into making a list ;)

I had a paticularly frustrating time climbing the soda tower in the store. The camera there would keep changing view rapidly and I kept losing track of where I was and kept falling off.

Another thing I have a issue with is throwing, It might just be me being terrible at games, but I never get enough momentum for it to go where I want it to go. I don't know if it's just me:spelunky:

I'm currently here in this part of the game, where you need to open a path for Stacy but the checkpoint I'm in loads me with a full bar so I can't even move and I die instantly. I tried accesing the menu to reload last checkpoint and it's not working either. I need help, this is very frustrating since I can't do anything! x_x

This is a really minor thing, but during the first level (the wedding) when the game teaches you how to control your legs, there is an invisible wall preventing you from proceeding until you have jiggled your limbs about for a couple of seconds. I feel it's a little inconsistent (sometimes it takes 2 seconds before it disappears, sometimes 8) and sort of ruins the flow of the first level when trying to beat it as fast as possible, so my suggestion would be to have it disappear immediately after the wall falls apart.
