Questions about ContrastQ: Questions related to the Collector’s Edition, other editions and future prices
A: If you have the Collector's Edition you can find OST and Programme by going to game properties -> local files -> explore local files -> CONTRAST_Programme-OST. For everything else you should see this.
Q: What is the song from the Music Trailer?
A: It’s “House on Fire”, a song composed specifically for Contrast and sung by Laura Ellis. It is part of the game and is included in the soundtrack.
Q: What is the song from Didi’s Trailer?
A: It’s “Gimme That Swing” by Cissie Redgwick from Cuckoo (available legally on YouTube). It is not part of the game and is not part of the soundtrack.
Q: What languages the game will be available in?
A: Voiceovers will be available in French and English. Subtitles will initially be available in English, French, Spanish, German and Italian. Some time after the premiere subtitles may be translated to Polish, Russian, Portuguese, Japanese and Mandarin. These translations require additional character sets, testing (e.g. check if the text fits everywhere) and (of course) the actual translation, which the devs didn’t have time to implement before launch.
Q: How much time the game takes to complete.
A: The average time is from 4 to 6 hours but it depends very much on how good you are at solving puzzles.
Q: Are there any more screenshots other than the Steam ones of Contrast?
A: Take a look here.
Q: ...and some footage from game?
A: You can find much here or search on YouTube. There is a lot.
Q: Are dialogs written in French or English? What version should I choose to get a better and more immersive effect?
A: The script was initially written in English, but was always intended to be recorded in both French and English (Compulsion is based in Montreal). You should probably check it on your own, if you are bilingual in French and English.
Q: Who is the composer of the OST?
A: The soundtrack was composed by Nicolas Marquis, the lead composer at WaveGeneration Audio.
Q: What about the demo? Is there a demo? Can I download it?
A: There is a demo but it was only availably during PAX Prime. (Compulsion: it’s also currently available in PS4 kiosks in the US.)
Q: Does the game need a super-duper freakin’ strong hypercomputer?
A: No, normal PC should be enough. The older (and elder too) ones will probably need to use lower resolution. Recomended specification isn’t confirmed but the predicted minimum can be found on the Steam shop page of Contrast.
Q: What engine does the game use?
A: A modified version of Unreal 3.
Q: Will a DLC be available?
A: Probably yes, after the game premiere however the type of DLC (I mean a map, a character, a story etc.) is not known yet.
Q: Does the game contain nuts/bacon/zombies/chainsaws/gluten/huge pixels?
A: Attention! The game may contain nuts/bacon/zombies/chainsaws/gluten/huge pixels! Feel warned.
Questions about the developers from CompulsionQ: Is there a devblog available?
A: Yes, here. (Compulsion edit: I’m really bad at updating this - sorry! - Sam)
Q: Were is Compulsion’s studio?
A: Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Q: Can Devs be contacted or asked?
A: Of course! For example Sam Abbott ain’t life and tries to spend as much time as possible not doing actual work, and talking on forums instead. So, yeah, you can ask away on the Steam forums, or if you’d like to ask something highly-confidential, look here.
Q: When making Contrast, what language Devs speak?
A: They use English. (Compulsion edit: on parle le francais aussi, to varying degrees.)
Q: A development-video-diary maybe?
A: They may do this some time after the premiere. However there is already a short "behind the scenes" video - check it ou here.
Q: I have no idea what/who are Sam and yusupov talking about down there! :C
A: Have you considered eating a sandwich?
Problems with the gameQ: Sir! A glitch! A bug! And whatever else!
A: Please report it here after quick reading of other reports to check if someone hasn't reported it already. Keep in mind that Compulsion knows about most of bugs but they just need some time to fix them. (Everyone who ever tried coding knows how it is to remove bugs ;-) ).
We're honestly doing the best we can. We focused first on the bugs that were preventing people from playing at all (which I still think is the right priority) and we fixed them yesterday. We're going to prioritise some of the other big things, too. We probably won't be able to fix up everything perfectly, but hopefully we'll sort out the major issues that are preventing people from enjoying the game.
Q: I get message "Graphics card not supported / VSync Issues"
A: Read this.
Q: I've got a computer with two graphics controllers (INTEL+AMD/NVIDIA)
A: Read this.
Q: I've got other crash or problem! :C
A: Then post it on the forums. NOT here.
Following FAQ was made in cooperation with Sam Abbott from Compulsion. He made not only the “Compulsion edits” - good job, Sam! ;-) New questions with answers are going to be added here.
