As these three topics have taken up a disproportionate amount of time to monitor which could have been spent on support incidents, so here are all of our statements combined. Future topics created in the thread will be pointed here and locked.
Female peasants cannot be trained in many roles simply because we haven't gotten around to creating the character models yet. There is no hidden agenda, or any historical reference being drawn. In Folk Tale both male and female peasants will be able to take up any role. There will be both male and female heroes. Please remember this is an alpha and development is ongoing.
UPDATE: Female characters are now in production, accessible via the Sandbox Editor, and will be available in sandbox in Patch 0.3.
There are currently no character skin tones to hint at an ethnically diverse population. We have already done some R&D work on character customization, and supporting skin tones has been part of that work. There was no hidden agenda or conscious decision to deliberately omit skin tone variety. Please remember this is an alpha and development is ongoing.
UPDATE: Please watch the video in Dev Blog 20[blog.gamesfoundry.com]
Camphry the wizard was written as a camp, flamboyant and sarcastic character. His sexual orientation is irrelevant as these traits have absolutely nothing to do with a person's sexual orientation. In fact it was specifically written in the voice script 18 months ago that while camp, Camphry is not in fact gay. In light of feedback, we will however be reviewing the character's lines and some of the animation.
As a liberally minded development team we are trying to balance people's sensitivities with the need for humor that might at times be considered edgy.
Thanks for your cooperation and understanding.
