When Is The Next Patch?
Let me begin by saying how much we appreciate your support during Early Access, and your patience while we drive development forward.

Changing From Campaign To Sandbox

Folk Tale is not like other games in Early Access. We polled the greenlight community prior to launching on Early Access who voted that the game be changed from a campaign mode game to a sandbox game mode. That is a significant change requiring major new code adding to the foundation layer as discussed in the Sandbox Vision Presentation. Normally you wouldn't make such a change during development as it does cause delays, but since we are responsive and listen to the majority voice of the community, we felt we should support that. To help speed up development, Early Access sales have enabled us to hire an additional two artists and a second programmer.

Planned Major Updates

Patch 0.2.7.0 is now live.

The first major update ( 0.2 ) is the Location Editor - part of the foundation layer in the presentation video - with subsequent minor updates expanding it. There will be incremental minor releases ( 0.2.x ) to add new features and content to the Location Editor. The Editor is a fundamental tool required to build sandbox.

The second major update ( 0.3 ) will be the next slice of playable content since the Tutorial, based loosely on tower-defence to test city walls and associated systems, and is penned for release in April 2014. While these updates are mostly about tech and gameplay, the mini-game will include some new content in the form of city walls, towers, siege-machines, and traps.

Planned Minor Updates

Details of what's likely to be in Patch 0.2.8.0 will be published in the Production Status mini-blog at the start of August.

What's The Best Way To Find Out If There Is An Update?

We publish news of updates in the Announcements section. We also write fortnightly development blogs providing insight into progress. Rather than checking back daily, you can save time by watching out for announcements, and dropping in on the dev blog.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Best of luck to the Dev team. So far the game looks to have good bones to it. Try to keep yourself within scope though.

I say good work so far keep it up and don't work yourselves to death. I really enjoy watching the progression and I think it will make people appreciate the final cut more.

Way to handle potential messy situations! Simon, and GF have yet to cease amazing me! Can't wait for the next update! Looking forward to the upcoming tower defense simulation! (If that's what the next patch is that is) If not then I'm excited to see what we get!

I've added the "Date Of Next Dev Blog" to the bottom of the post so everyone can see when the next dev blog will be available for reading. We'll aim to blog at the end of every month so folks can read up on what's been happening behind the scene.

Sorry, I will check it out once its a bit down the road. For now, it only looks promising, but so have so many others. I do think the devs here have a point and I will check in from time to time, but as I said before....Ive heard this over and over.

Sounds good so far, though when you say switch from campaign mode to sandbox mode, does that mean at the end of the day there will be both? or does that mean that it will be just a sandbox game. No complaints, just curiosity.
Games Foundry  [developer] Jul 22, 2013 @ 3:14pm
Folk Tale will be a sandbox game only ( apart from an updated version of the tutorial ). Additional game modes will be reviewed as options depending on the success of the final retail version.

I see for the first time that the devolopers play a open book with the players, big props because players like that!!!!

great game, great devolopers!

can it not be campaign as well because i dont like the idea of sandbox alone so i may not get this game
Kinja Jul 24, 2013 @ 7:00am
I think the fact that you chose to listen to part of the community and go with sandbox mode alone will hurt you guys in the long run. I'm not gonna buy it because of this and i know i'm not the only one. The tutorial i saw on youtube in a let's play looked very promising and fun and i just can't see how most of the humor and the story the tutorial was hinting at can make it in an open ended, non scripted sandbox environment. If i just wanted to build stuff there are tons of other games that cover that aspect.

Good luck with the rest of the development process.
