Patch 0.2.4 Progress - Latest Info
Hi Guys,

As promised, I said I'd keep you updated over the weekend. Following testing and bug fixing on Saturday we hit a show-stopping bug late evening that is preventing us from packaging the game up for uploading onto Steam.

Everything is running in the engine editor just fine, but we're unable to publish the deployment packages because the standalone builds run at only 5fps. We know the source of the problem, and are continuing work today ( Sunday ) to find a resolution. While the guys are busy with that, I'm using the extra time to write the Sandbox Player Guide so you've all got something to reference when the patch becomes available.

I best set your expectation now that it is unlikely we'll be able to get the build out by the end of the weekend. I'm happy with the state of what we've implemented so far, so once the issue described above is resolved there should be no further hold ups.

I'll continue to update you once more later today, and each day in the coming week until the patch is available.

PS: Free building placement rocks!

UPDATE: Unity have found and fixed the bug, and we expect a new build of Unity somewhere between the end of April and early May. Once we receive that, we can complete the build, test, and publish patch 0.2.4. Please note this isn't hindering development, only our ability to publish builds.

Unfortunately we've not yet been able to resolve the problem, but work continues. In the mean time I have published the draft Sandbox Player Guide which I will continue to add to.

Frustrating day. We're going to have to refer the issue to Unity, the engine developer, since this is a problem with their C++ API, specifically on Windows ( doesn't happen under OSX ).

Thank you for the update :) I understand the pain of having to ask the engine developer as it can take extra time and be a pain. Hope you guys get the help you need soon. Good luck on this bug!

We've submitted a repro project to Unity to help them recreate the bug ( 50% of the battle towards fixing it ). We do have a contingency plan but I'm holding off a few days to see what Unity say.

In the meantime the team will continue working towards 0.3, while I start working on Dev Blog 22 to show what's in Patch 0.2.4 once this issue gets resolved.

GF, I have to compliment you on your guide-writing skills. It's more comprehensive than most fully completed game manuals these days. Only problem with it is it's making me drool that much more over the upcoming patch! :D

I wasn't aware games still had manuals these days.
