Folk Tale

I've restarted sand box multiple times because of the wood cutters. Please help.
Every game this week in haven, the game ends up tanking after fire wood runs out. I started giving the wood cutter lodge full use of it's radius by not building anything else other than a hunter's lodge. That didn't help as eventually there were no trees within the radius. I upgraded the hut and bought all research but left it at 4/8 workers, didn't help. This town had around 70 people.

Last night I started a new sandbox game in the swamp and it didn't even get off the ground good before the brand new woodcutter building tanked the game. One second the 2 workers had cut the few trees there were but I did see them planting many new baby trees so figured everything was ok. Fast forward to the scripted wolf attack I fend off with my heroes (to tell you how early I was into the game) and then I notice all those little planted trees vanished, the workers were standing around, and no trees within the radius. I had even restarted the game before beginning this swamp map.

So, please tell me what you do so I can have some tips before starting a new game. I'm getting worn down playing a map to have it go south a few hours in. It appears at some point the replanting mechanic just stops.

There's a potential issue whereby if you have more than 1 woodcutter hut, the other huts can end up using all the seeds which leads to the possibility of a hut not having any seeds. It's on the task list to investigate.

No, I was always using one hut with 4 wood cutters. I only tried a second hut in another forest in one save after the first had cleared all the land and wasn't planting.

I'm having luck in today's new game though. I placed two huts side by side and only hired one wood cutter for each. They seem to not be able to clear the forest faster than they cut and plant and so far it's worked out well. Couple hours into the save and the forest looks more less the same as it did when I started.

Seeds are kinda RNG from what I can tell you don't get them for every cut tree. Also depending on how big your town is you could be tanking from not having enough woodcutter huts and woodcutters. By the end game I usually end up converting logs into firewood as I usually have a massive surplus of the first one. But I agree seed RNG could use a little work even when I fill the build area I sometimes get nervous if I'll be able to keep planting and so I have to find another source. I believe you can buy logs from the marketplace so you might want to just buy the logs and convert over but I may be wrong about the marketplace... Something worth looking into.

I just had to turn off fires in the options. Never failed a fire ruined hours of work because of AI stupidity.
