Final boss a joke?
Seriously, this is by far the most easiest final boss in the YS series!

SPOILER:
Just cast the Shield magic and attack, I beat him with 256/256 HP left -.-
For each attack you lose 1 magic, so he must hit you 256 times, you can also use a RODA FRUIT and your mafic meter is full again! So you havea total of over 768HP

(Nightmare not confirmed)

Yeah I hated the final boss because of this.

He definitely hits you for a lot more on Nightmare difficulty. Still pretty easy, if you play it safe.

But if the difficulty of him is bothering you that much, you should try him without Shield magic. That, or do an under-leveled playthrough =p (he'll be quite challenging then, even on Easy, even with Shield magic, and fully loaded with healing items).

Oh really?

Yep. Nightmare difficulty still isn't terrible without Shield magic (then again, I'm decent with Nightmare), as long as you know how to evade him. Under-leveled on Easy takes 510 hits though, so that'll be challenging for pretty much anyone (good luck making it that far under-leveled =p).

Oh wow

There's a point of no return? I know I was able to back out of the core of Ys, it's needed for an achievement in fact. Where I could see it that you may not be able to back out it would not be able to save then since it starts with a scene and then the battle.

Yeah, the point of no return is when you enter the door after freeing the Goddesses. If you save there, you're stuck. That said, Darm is perfectly doable at level 50, it just requires learning his patterns (they really aren't that bad).

Only took me a couple tries at level 54, but yeah once I figured out to try shield magic (no it can't be THAT easy?) it was like.... well, jeez.

Another very useful tip is to buy and equip the Elixir you can buy off the item shop in Lance Village. If it's equipped, you'll get an auto-revive at the moment you'd die, which even maxes out your MP bar again as well. Combined with the Shield magic, you effectively have FOUR hit bars you can burn before dying. That's more than enough even for Nightmare.

Or if you used the elixir already like I had for the Dalles battle, Roda fruit heals all MP. Those foods you get from people heal all HP. So really there's a few nice combos to help out there. The Roda Fruit was enough for me on nightmare, and I wasn't even trying to dodge.

I did him at level 52 and he was hitting for alot more than 1 damage to me. He was fairly challenging for me that way.

I just beat him on Nightmare, 1 HP left... THIS is what he should have been like on Normal, IMO. It's a pretty climactic battle when you do have to put effort into it.

I thought he was pretty intense i didnt beat him with much of my health still showing.

Darm is pretty hard in the older versions of Ys 2. They kinda nerfed him in Eternal/Complete/Chronicles.
