Game order?
Simple question.. for the best gamer experience, do I play the games in chonological order by release date or by setting date?

...And if by setting, then what order are the games supposed to be in? (and release date if the originals aren't the same as the Steam release dates)

I think the chronology goes like this:

Ys Origin (available on steam) - a prequel set 700 years before the first game, can be played before or after.

Ys I+II (available on steam) - second game continues directly after first.

Ys: Memories of Celceta (not available on steam) - recently got a Vita release.

Ys: The Oath In Felghana (available on steam)

Ys V: Ushinawareta Suna no Miyako Kefin (not available on steam)

Ys: The Ark of Napishtim (not available on steam)

Ys Seven (not available on steam)

I could be wrong, but that was I how I remembered it. The majority of Ys games are self-containted stories. The exception to that rule being the second game, because it continues directly after the events of the first. The overarching story isn't hugely important, and outside of second game, you can play them in whatever order you feel like.

You should play them the order they came out
