Fallout New Vegas keeps crashing when starting a new game
So I downloaded Fallout New Vegas and it's DLC's yesterday and finished patching the game this morning, but when I go on and start a new game, even after pressing escape to stop the intro video, the moment I click new game, it shows the loading screen for about 3 seconds, then I have an error message saying fallout has quit and that windows is searching for the cause of the problem.

I have done the AddKeys.bat trick, I have updated all my video and audio drivers, I have updated DX and I have checked the games integrity, but even then, this constantly says that 1 file failed to patch, and that steam is downloading it, when it does download the file, it still says the same thing.

please help :(

For the i files they fail to patch it's normal, all the people have this, it's a normal bug...

make sure you have the think they asking for making running the game, and make sure you are "administrator", on your computer, some people have problem like this because of this sometime...

Try to look in this page to view if you have on of this program they are on your computer, it's perharp one of this they can cause your crash in starting because they are incompatible together (Steam and the program)...

hi daniel, thanks for the reply, i have searched that list and it seems there is nothing on there that i have active to cause the crash, also, steam doesn't tell me what file it is i am missing which is a bit annoying
Daniel Mar 12, 2013 @ 9:40pm
no, don't broke your head with this file, like i have say it's a steam problem but they don't broke the game, all the people have this missing file...

do you have add some mods?, sometime the mods can crash the game in start, (not the mods they come with the game but mods you have take on internet)...

can you say the configuration of your computer, it's can help to try to view if it's the computer the problem, like minimum requirement, ect...

Do you have trying to lauch the game with the other program off temporarry (the program they work in back) like anitivirus or other...

do you have a retail or do you have buy the game by steam...

can you say if it only with this game it's make this or only this one (the game they use steam)...

do you have already playing it on this computer or if the first time...

you can try too, disable the anti-alias in the option in the main menu..., i don't think it's this the problem, but it's happend sometime...

if nothing work, try to disable all (disable the box beside ALL the mods) the mods in your data files in the main menu of the game, after try to laught...

Same problem, gets all the way to the loading screen after the into video for a new game then crashes. Fallout 3 is haveing same issue. They are the only two games doing this on my list of 102 games i have on here so the problem really seems to be with modern issues to the fallout series.

I have no mods
intel core i5-3450
8GB ram
windows 7
all exe are shut down but steam client and the fallout 3 or fallout NV
Fallout does have old saves i did play before but no longer work
I followed the list of programs that can conflict with steam

I dont know what i could have changed on my computer that would effect only these two games
Daniel Mar 12, 2013 @ 11:02pm
It's not only with this two game, it's happening to all the people they use the Bethesda game..., it's make neer ten years it's like this on all her game, all her game have the same problem..., but they have good game, it's just bad to pay a high price for a bugged game...

i remember, sometime it's the directx they have problem, make sure they are up to date...

i will try to find other info

but when you say you have old saves, you say they crash to desktop too..., do you have already tring to use some mods, if yes, sometime even if you delete the mods, the savegame are corrupted..., and you need to start a new game...
Renadace Mar 12, 2013 @ 11:45pm
i never tryed any mods. The Fallout 3 saves are with a fresh copy of the game. I never got around to modding Fallout 3. Thank you so much for all your hard work your putting into this for all of us. I looking around too for answers. Maybe one of us will figure it out.

it's seem some people have succest to start it in putting the game in "windows xp compatibility" mode...

an other people have made this too..., i show you what they have say... :

------------------------------------------
What I did was go into C:\Users\[yourusername]\Documents\My Games\
And deleted the fallout3 & falloutnv folders and let the game recreate them, as soon as I did that both games started working again. (Note, [yourusername] isn't what the folder is called, it would be whatever your windows user name is)

Thou technically I didn't delete them, I just renamed them, that way I could copy my old saved games from playing previously into the new folders.

No such luck with either. Steam throughs all kinds of errors for compatibility mode. On top of that getting rid of the fallout folders in the My Games folder changed nothing for me.

Sadly I think im gonna give up on this one. I like the games but not enough to beat my head against my monitor till i fix it, or ask anyone eles to go through the same on my behalf.

Thank you all the same my friend. It means alot to see how hard you have worked for a total stranger. =^_^=

ok, i have no mods installed, everything in the settings are on low and my anti aliasing is off, i bought the game through steam, but i've never had problems with bethesda i have skyrim and used to have oblivion, both worked fine, i "aqcuired" this game before to see if it would run on my computer and it did, my computer specs are :-

Intel core 2 Quad processor,
windows 7 32bit
4 gig of ram
Radeon HD 6670 GPU
Daniel Mar 13, 2013 @ 1:53pm
ummm, if all your thing are up to date, i am lost, i have trying to find on internet some way they can help, but it's seem they can have more thing they cause this, and i am not sure but i think your spec are ok, i view more people playing with a similar computer and they work well,

but for now i think it's can be a good way to ask this question to the steam people too, it's perharp something in steam they block you but i can not andswer on this for her, and it's seem you are not the only in this problem..., i have trying to look the help section of steam but i don't find anything they can help you too...,

but on a other way, i have view you use the 32 bit of windows 7, again, i am not sure but i think the 32 bits have already caused more problem like this in the past to some people, so, i don't know if you have buy the box of windows, but you can try to install the 64 bits,

but i can not say for sure it's will corrected your problem...,

thanks for the help daniel, how do i go about contacting steam directly?
Daniel Mar 13, 2013 @ 5:11pm
i have find this too, i will show a text of the people they have give an andswer...:
------------------------------------------------
I'll post the ini fix that clears up all crashing, freezing etc. on quad cores - Maybe it'll work for dual core as well.

1) Go to My Documents\My Games\FalloutNV.
2) Right click Fallout.ini, select properties and untick read-only. Hit OK.
3) Open up Fallout.ini and;
Find the line:
bUseThreadedAI=0
change it to:
bUseThreadedAI=1
Add another line after it and insert:
iNumHWThreads=2
4) Close & save. Redo step 2 and enable read-only again.

5) Do all the above in Steam\steamapps\Common\Fallout New Vegas\Fallout_default.ini as well, otherwise your edits will just revert.
-----------------------------------------------

i don't know if it can work, but they have the same problem of you..., but if you prefer to view all the discussion... :
http://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/882964760926341118/

to ask a question to steam, you can look in this windows an using the big button on the right, you will need to create an account for the support...
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_cat.php?id=87

and you can try to have a look too on this page, some have same problem, but it's seem nothing working, but i have not looking all because i am not register to this site and i am not able to make a research because this, anyway, here the link for the page i have looking a little... :
http://forums.bethsoft.com/forum/112-fallout-new-vegas-pc-issues/

and i think you can peharp ask your question there too, because it's seem here no one have the andswer, and if steam can not help you i think this place will help you because it's the site of bethesda, the people they have make the game...

snowball Mar 16, 2013 @ 12:21am
i got a pop up "ffdshow compatibility manager"
"The application "FalloutNV.exe" has made an attempt to load InstaCodecs. This dialog is shown because this application is not listed in the InstaCodecs whitelist or blacklist.
Your choice will be applied to both audio and video, if both are used."

then i get to choose "Use Instacodecs" or Dont use
