yet another sale question: open world
thinking of buying, i enjoyed the old fallouts and wasteland 2 got me back in the mood for post apo

BUT

i m really into openworld games, and, i m really not a FPS guy, except, maybe, for stalker

so...will i be able to just wander around, do as i want, feel free etc...
how big is the world?

...and will the combat be peew peew medkit peew peew medkit medkit peww peew or "ok...ummh what shall i do next?, let me grab something to eat while i think about it"(understand brainless fps or weird turnbased fps?)?

i ve read here and there that it s possible to combine fallout3 with newvegas, does that mean that fallout 3 content can be played NV style?

thank you for your patience, im aware you ll be reading lots of similar posts during the sale

You can wander around, but most of the map is small one-off shacks and caves with small loot and random enemy spawns. The map area is about 25-30 minutes of walking from one edge to the other. It's very story-focused, not really exploration-based. A few mods (like Real-Time Settler) remedy this though.

Combat is like that, yes. Except the medkit part is seldom used after level 20 (out of 50), since you are very overpowered compared to NPCs. Combat is more of an excuse to get XP for skills and money for repairing equipment. Not looter-shooter level bad though.

Yes, it's called Tales of Two Wastelands. Very resource-consuming. Adds in FO3 as a mod to New Vegas, with a bunch or updates to fit the new engine and game rules.

Worth, ive put well over 200 hours into it on the xbox 360, you can go wherever you want from the beginning and kill pretty much whomever you please.

Skyrim/Oblivion with Gunz.

The combat can pretty much go that way (pew pew medkit) if you want the simplest way to dispose an enemy or you can go to an extent the planning method, lay down some traps (ie mines) for your enemies, then eat some drugs/medications that would enhance your character during combat for a brief moment etc.

In terms of open-world-ness I would say its pretty big in my opinion, especially if you add in mods that adds more places to explore and such.

In a simpler way of explaining, I feel srs bsns is pretty much right though

i just randomly charge in with a sword and say ♥♥♥♥ evreything
Greetings fellow Ranger. New Vegas is open-world in the sort of sense that Arizona is open-world in Wasteland 2. While it lacks the "hard-block" mechanic of the radiation cloud, the game is largely unleveled, and so traversing many areas will be far too dangerous for a low-level Courier. The game is story driven, and like Wasteland 2 it more or less expects you to follow the story, at least at first. After the first few hours, when you get to Vegas, the game opens up and things are generally more free-form.

Enjoy!

I've been using a slightly-upgraded LMG from AWOP, but this has pretty much been my tactics recently, if only to use up some of my massive food stockpile.

I don't agree with that. I think that some of the followers, Arcade Gannon for example, are among the best written NPCs in the game.

Get it. It's even worth the full price.
You don't even need to aim, I just use VATS everytime some ♥♥♥♥♥♥ comes near me and go for a headshot.
Also, get Boone. He's a Sniper companion with pretty much a built-in aimbot ;) He can save your ass, a lot.

Regarding the open-world thing and the freedom of choice, hell, the game doesn't even look like it has a main questline. Just choose a faction you like, and join. If you can't choose a faction, there's always exploring and killing Benny.

I liked that one chick you meet at the i88 trading outpost or whatever it's called. the brotherhood of steal chick.. I really enjoyed the companions as a whole.

I agree with the people above. There's some parts that make it a little less super free-form than some open world games, but it is no detriment. There's lots of stuff to see and do and it's always interesting.

Plus, what hooked you: I love the non-leveled aspect of the game.

But yeah, if you are a patient person and can re-play games, beat it once without mods and then add in a bunch of them like A World of Pain and stuff. Makes a totally new and amazing experience.

That's true, but playing with them is boring. I prefer the one-man army kind of play, which is something I know you don't enjoy to the same level. :P
