Endless warfare is a large npc spawner that also carry companion npcs as well you should try that one.

Try Desmond harper, he sounds quiet and calm for most times. only downside is that he does not have any perks, but you could make that up if you arm him with an LMG, makes a great suppression fire companion

although but he does alot better with a sniper rifle, anti material rifle loaded with the GRA explosives is something you gotta be careful if your a melee user

Niner, Willow, Desmond, and the guy who was made by the people/person who did New Vegas Bounties are essentially the only good companions short of animals or robots (and even most of those suck).

RUSSEL!!!! Seroiusly though, he has a great story and adventure ( like all of Someguy2000's story mods) and he kicks ass. Comes with Perks and a REAL dog you can find along the way. Plus some really cool events in the story.
Besides him, Delialah, Willow are the only other two I've used, and they're both really good, especially if you use Delialah's alternate voicing.
And play New Vegas Bounties if you haven't, I'm just starting the second part and it's pretty cool.

you could try jessi and bella, but their wheel doesnt work and they dont talk much.

Jessi requires you to get the files from Fallout 3, but the good thing about her and reason why I favor her is because she can repair and change your character as you wish without means of commands through console. Bella on the other hand can do the same, but instead of changing your characters, you get a free player house with it
