(Notice, I play on the standalone DCS client don't let steam hours fool you) This game is my life, I've been playing it on the dcs standalone client for a year now. I own almost every module, no sim in history has ever came close to the detail of DCS. All negative comments about prices for modules or it being not user friendly is mute. This is a hardcore sim, if you love aviation then you will love this game. And it's slowly becoming the only true combat sim left for props.(Even though the ww2 aspect of the game is still very work in progress) IL-2 battle of stalingrad has went the wrong direction. IL-2 1946 is good, but the online community is dead, and the game has shown it's age. War thunder isn't even a flight sim, that games sim battles are a joke.
The only other good option is IL-2 cliffs of dover with team fusion mods, it mixes hardcore elements of engine management, but is more forgiving than DCS.
The module price in DCS is entirely justified by the quality done, if you can't see that, then you just don't understand what you're looking at. I recommend downloading the standalone client from the DCS website, you can benefit from both the steam sales and the companies own sales, which when they have them are HUGE discounts like 70% off.
If you are interested in this game, give the Su-25T a try, (It's free) it's one of my favorite aircraft still. And then bump up to FC3, if you manage to overcome the initial complexity of working the radar, then when you buy a full, entirely simulated module like the A-10C or MiG-21 then it will make life easier.
Though I NEVER recommend a beginner to pick up the a-10c, because even the more simplified FC3 aircraft are too much for a lot of people.
