P-51 guns FPS drop?
Whenever either I, or somebody else shoots off the cal .50 machine guns in the P-51, my game turns into a slideshow. Is anyone else getting this problem?

Otherwise, the game runs smooth for me (save for some of those cluster bombs).

It's so bad that it makes combat impossible for the P-51 (except for tricking the enemy pilot into ripping his own wings off)

I've not noticed, but it might be graphics card/driver dependant or most likely system specs. I've certainly read about the guns smoke causing issues before. Things worth trying to help narrow it down would be:

- Try with HDR on or off?

- P-51 Mirror off? (it eats FPS)

- TSSAA off and MSAA <= 4

Mirrors and HDR don't change a thing (I usually leave them off anyway). I also leave TSSAA off, though where would I change MSAA settings? (it appears there's no AA when I'm running though)

I'm curious how the P-51's guns take so much more out of my computer than any other similar device (Like the 30mm cannon on the A-10)

If the problem is the smoke, is there a solution?

My graphics card is an Nvidia GT555M (it's a laptop card). I have to tone some of the graphics settings down to get a steady FPS. Just seems outrageous as to how much those guns slow things down though

I'm not sure this is a solution but there are a few graphics config changes to try, including replacing the smoke files. It's a long thread but worth a look:

Plus a smoke tweak that may help with the P51 guns - I can't be sure as I can't recreate here but I hope it helps:

Afraid those didn't help.

The smoke tweak referenced a location in the installation that didn't exist actually. Did the file structure get changed when they updated the smoke and fire effects?

It's all about Hard drive speed.
For some reason the smoke effect is not pre-loaded into the RAM and because of that you get huge FPS drops when firing. The only solution would be to install the game on a SSD or a very fast HDD

Try to capture your FPS in you graphics.lua in configfolder C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Config with notepad ++

line 186 max fps 120 (defaul) try 30

The biggest FPS eater for me are cockpit shadows

I actually already locked the FPS at 30 from before, which kept a more consistent FPS, but didn't change a thing with the guns/smoke

I hope ED fixes the thing with the smoke not being loaded
