fyi, X45 is cheap as dirt (got a good as new one for 30 bucks) but needs a game port for the throttle (6 bucks on ebay)...stick itself is USB.

it also has rudder buttons on the bottom of the throttle for those of us who don't own rudders yet :)

cyberphaZ is wright there really cheap but really awesome in its only little way but it has its doown turns

and you can go to DCS's website and find a ton of good resources there, like profile's for the TrackIR 5 and for the Saitek x52. I'm partial to these:

Well, this is very realistic simulator. Without joystick it is almost impossible to fly. Maybe in game mode.

at the very least you need a game pad with analog stick for flight control, otherwise you're gonna have difficulty with the flying part.
theres no harm in testing out the game though it is free and theres enough there for you to learn even before flying, might seem a bit dry but it is very detailed simulation of combat aircraft.

I can take off the p51 with keyboard set trim first.
Or turn on take off and rudder assistant in special options menu.
