DCS World Steam Edition

DCS World Steam Edition

Dawks [PIR] Oct 16, 2013 @ 10:50pm
New Win7 install; nothing but crashes with DCS
Re-written to summarize:

fearlessfrog pointed out that A10-C requires 64bit. So I checked and that's true.

Ka-50 ran wonderfully on XP. I don't know how.
But I ended up spending $70 on that ... and now another $40 on A-10C.

HeyHo, my mistake.

Hi - could you run through the steps in trouble-shooting list please?

If they all don't help, then please list full specs. You need a 64-bit OS and 6GB of RAM.

Ooh, sure will! and gladly!

Any crash logs there? If so, what do they say?

Main cause for crashes is that DCS is dependant on the Graphics card and direct draw (Dx)...the crash logs will show that

Didn't know that.
To tell the truth old Ka-50 ran just fine on XP ... which, of course, was 32 bit. Is why I went on to update it and buy A-10C.
Shot myself in the foot!

see you all in mmmmm 6 months or so, after I build a new box.

Since the last update the game must run on a 64bit OS the reason for this is that as you may know they are in the process of upgrading the game engine to EDGE and has notthing to do with A 10C module

"has notthing to do with A 10C module" ... except that the A-10C requires 64bit. Which is the point. Shot myself in the foot, there.
So my $70 Ka-50 is now a waste of space. That ... I kinda resent that.

If you have recently rebuilt your PC (from the original message before the edit) then don't forget that if you own a Windows 7 32 bit license key then you also already own the 64 bit version, it doesn't cost anything to use the 64-bit version.

Also, if you want to (or need to) use previous versions of DCS World (if you can't move to 64-bit) then outside of Steam you can look at doing installs and updates via this:

Ooh! froggie! I wasn't aware of that!
But I'll probably start from scratch. This box (pretty good in its day) is AM3 socket, so seriously dead-ended. Will repurpose it for work, and ReDo from Start with DCS in mind. (Which will do my ArmA3 performance a lot of good.)
But that does open an option.
thanks

This aulde dawg but his teeth programming with DIP switches. (Yes, I mean bit by bit, ReDo from Start with any error.)
So for me 64bit OS is a bit like Science Fiction ... or for work stations.

I very comfortably assumed that for me Win7-64 was dreaming in technicolor. It turns out that my game box (built to run XP) will run this very well.

Long/Short? I'm gonna do a full re-install and so, see you in the field!
