Is TrackIR worth it?
I've watched the promo video for TrackIR and I must say it looks pretty sweet. Obviously it's a fair bit of cash to outlay though.

So really, as per the title:

1. If you are using it do you think it is defintely worth it?
2. Not sure what the go is with the pro-clip - is it worth getting if you are getting TrackIR anyway?

Thanks.

I can't speak for TrackIR, as I use freetrack with a ps3 eye and built my own head gear.
It works extremely well, so I don't think I would ever pay up for TrackIR considering how easy and cheap it is to DIY.

I don't think that TrackIR is worth it as a product but only because you can make your own with freetrack and save a load of cash.

TrackIR is overpriced and the company that makes it (Naturalpoint) is very happy that they are the only (official) game in town.

The FaceTrackNoIR works with any webcam, but a lot affects its precision and responsiveness.
TrackIR 5 is very precise and is worth it.
I suggest flying the aircraft and learning them first then deciding if it's worth it for you.
What's worth for one individual might seem excessively expensive for another.

First of all, what camera and LEDs are you using?

It will not feel responsive if you are tracking at 30fps, so get a camera that can do 60fps at least. The resolution makes a large difference to the accuracy (holding a view without stuttering), as I noticed switching between 320*240 and 640*480.
I find tracking at 640*480 at 60fps to be significantly more precise than 320*240 at 100fps and barely notice any difference in responsiveness.

i'm using the SFH485P led. the camera is an old logitech quick cam skype ...

it's tracking at 30 fps 320x240... maybe is that the problem.. i should try with a pa3 eyecam... maybe it's better...

Yes, the camera is definitely the cause.

I don't think there are any other cameras around with similar specifications at such a low price, so yes.

Make sure that you get the correct version:

As it's impossible to tell from purchasing from online retailers, you will need to go browse your local game shops, or get one from ebay.

Buy a TrackIR since it works out of the box. If you are a dedicated flight sim fan it's definatly worth it eventhough it can take a while getting used to it.

You might be able to get one from ebay, as long as you check the listings which contain photos taken by the seller, or even ask them to check the lens for you.
Most sellers are happy to help, but it's probably worth linking them the pictures without the context of the thread, incase they are happy to lie to you and sell the 'bad' camera.

yes... i might think to buy trackIR.. even if it's expensive...
the super bundle at least give me a10c ... considering the cost of the game itself maybe is a quite good deal...

I got working quite well with free track.. maybe i ve got to tweak a little more with the settings but it's quite acceptable... i hope i can fix it!

btw it's very strange to fly with headtraking...i'm not used to!
