Fallout 3 - Game of the Year Edition

Fallout 3 - Game of the Year Edition

I'm pretty sure the game has subtitles, but on the information...
No subtitle information shown. I recall a deaf girl starting a petition that got a lot of attention, and as a result localisation (and subtitle) information was added to most games' pages. However, I've searched a few popular PC titles and I'm very sure from past playing that Fallout 3 does support subtitles. It's as if Valve has added this supposed subtitle information column to appease the community but is too lazy to actually update it. It's not rocket science, Valve!

I'm willing to bet that even if the community sent a message to Valve confirming the game has subtitles, they'd completely ignore the messages. I'm not bothered about subtitles personally, but I'd sure as hell want to know if I was deaf.

So... I don't understand the complaint? The game has subtitles, so what's the rant for?

If I've understood this correctly it's the fact that the game has subtitles, but since the game lacks the "subtitles" tag under information on the storepage, people might think that it doesn't. I've got to say that I don't understand either why this is worth ranting about... Quite frankly, I've not played a single game where subtitles were not an option.

Most games nowadays have a sub-titles option anyways (well, unless it's a game that has no dialogue, perhaps like a 2D Platformer where you just jump and shoot stuff). But if one was really wanting to know if a game had a subtitles options or not, a simple visit to the game's forum with the question of "Does this game have subtitles?" would surely have someone reply with an answer.

So . . . you're *not* deaf and the game *has* sub-titles - so what's the problem? That the subtitle tag isn't there? So someone who *is* deaf might have to do an internet search on their own? Do you really think that's difficult for the *hard of hearing*?

This is concern trolling.

Think of my post as you wish. Concern trolling? Hah, that's quite the interpretation. In fact, it was never my intention to cause paranoia; I merely wanted a rational discussion. If I may explain myself, I talked to somebody briefly who is deaf. I have the ability to emphasise with other people. Have you never come across somebody with a difficulty and been able to understand? I really don't want to think of most of my fellow gamers as selfish ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥s.

I guess I'll respond to the asterisk-filled comment. Yes, I am *not* deaf, but I *do* have concern for other people, and therefore I *will* enquire about certain things *for* the sake of others. Things don't have to be for my own sake for me to go out of my way. I have no problem with Fallout 3 or Bethesda obviously. I love the game. As I'd expect, you'll question why I posted in here in the first place, rather than Steam's feedback forums. First, I don't have a forum account, and secondly, this is one game I almost knew for certain has subtitles. An intelligent discussion shouldn't be that much to ask for.

Actually, contrary to the apparent popular belief, there are many games (more commonly indie games, but a lot of blockbuster ones too) that do not have subtitles or don't provide information on whether they are available. Theory, your library is quite expansive, but I own over four times the amount. I've come across many subtitle-less games.

I'll end this rather long comment with this: I'm sure there are deaf gamers who have large game libraries. Some of you seem to think enquiring about whether a game supports subs is no problem. Try and put yourself in their shoes. Would you like to do this hundreds of times often waiting 1-2 days in each instance? Valve has already put the code in place. All they need to do is check a box.

Crap, dude. Just send Valve a support ticket or email gaben yourself. Get offa yer high horse, there is nooo point to this thread except to put down Valve for a problem you haven't even tried to bring to their attention.

Also, less is more.

As this is the Steam User Forums, where mostly it's just end-Users (the Players / Gamers) in these forums, there's little any of us can do about what is put on a game's Description, so it'd probably be better to contact the Developers and/or Steam on the matter (however I expect they won't do anything about it either, but at least you will hopefully get your voice "heard" by the right parties). Sure, ideally it would be great if details like that, such as if a game had sub-titles or not, was listed with the game's description, but as that's unlikely to happen for this game (and many other games), in the meantime it's probably just easier to post a simple question in the forums of "Does this game have subtitles? (or whatever feature wanting to ask about)", or do a quick google search. Cheers! :)

PS: Here's a website I found (doing a quick google search) that does reviews of some popular games and has the Deaf Gamer in mind:
Though of course it won't have all games listed, but with some more google-ing you can find similar sites, or find out more info of if a game has subtitles or not.
