I Have Windows 7 Can I play Fallout 3?
When I researched Fallout 3 Goty on Steam, a note at the top says it isn't optimized to Windows 7. Can I still play the game even if I have Windows 7? I really would love to buy it since I have just about every other Bethesda game on the PC.

There's multiple way's that say they fix the problem but all they do is extend the crashing for 5-10 mins. Nothing works, the game is hopless in Win 7. Im just glad i got it when it was 9.99.

I have windows 8 and the same problem, mine was fixed by simply installing the microsoft live program on the computer, I didn't even log in. It was xlive.dll that was my actual issue, hope this helps you.

i have windows 7, hasnt crashed on me yet, though i have noticed steam only tracks my playtime every now and then, and i cant bring up the in-game steam-browser, but those are small things.

but yeah, windows 7, no modifications, works like a charm, though i havent done any of the storyline missions, so maybe later on it will run into crashing, who knows.

Just played the past dozen or so hours straight with no issues on Windows 8. Since Fallout 3 (through Steam) is a Game for Windows Live, you have to have GFWL installed (like rage said above you don't have to log into it). Fallout3.exe and FalloutLauncher.exe should be set for XP SP3 compatibility. This should fix your issues in Windows 7 & 8. (Another thing, I remember from Windows 7, some had to run it in Window Mode (not full screen))

What is GFWL?

@Laughing Man (RU)

I've ran 32bit & 64bit Windows XP, Vista, 7 & 8. Only on one machine did I have to set Fallout for "Window Mode" and it was because the machine was just barely under the minimum system requirements for Fallout 3 and running Windows 7 x64.

Do you meet the "minimum system requirements"? http://fallout.bethsoft.com/eng/games/f3-faq.php (starts about half way down the page)

Did you apply the compatibility for XP SP3 to the shortcuts on your desktop? or the actual executables?

Where did you download GFWL from? did you get it from http://www.xbox.com/en-US/Live/PC/DownloadClient? There's a link at the bottom for "Download the Games for Windows Client".

If you did all this and it will not run (even in "Window Mode"), I am baffled.

Just trying to help.
Can't imagine the thought of not being able to play Fallout 3, or New Vegas, or any of the Elder Scrolls... (could have just said anything from Bethesda)
