Crashing when loading new area
No idea what's causing this, but I've run into this error for awhile now and havn't found much of a way around it except backtracking my save and trying to just ram my way into a new area. I've been trying to get into Rivet City, but when I try to get into the market, I get an infinite load screen, and if I tab out, a crash. I was able to get into the stairwell, go around, and get into the market, but now when I try to leave, crash. This has been happening for days now, yet before, my game worked just fine, and I didnt change my load order or anything. Anyone know a fix to this kind of problem where it just crashes when trying to load a new area? Before, I was outside of megaton when it hit me bad - I literally couldn't walk 25 steps away from the gate or I'd crash, and trying to load any area - even with use of a 'coc <location>' command just results in a crash.

Things I've tried:
Multithreading (ini) tweak [i.e. the 'threadedai=1' then setting it to 2 cores]
Stuttering fix
Updated unofficial Fallout 3 patch
Merged Patch
Validating file cache
Uninstall/reinstall


I really don't know what the heck is causing this. Any bright ideas out there?

That's a corrupted save file.

To avoid corrupted save files

1) use casm
2) disable auto saves
3) Always save to a new slot, never overwrite an existing save. No really

I've been using CASM, disabled all autosaves, and I havn't overwritten any saves, yet the problem continues. I'm going to start a new game - for the second time now. Any other suggestions?

If you are using CASM, then you should have a huge number of saves you can go back to where the problem does not occur.

I've tried going further and further back and shortly after, I keep running into it. I'm going to try and just restart my game, see how that goes.

Note - anything with a =0 means that that plugin is not in my load order - I took this right off of Nexus Mod Manager. Anything with a <blah> + <blah> or <blah> combined/merged is a merged patch, usually of small mods, or DLC patches for mods to reduce the number of active plugins. Worked fine for about 5-6 hours and then it all went down the tubes.

I admit I don't know what most of those mods do.

The more mods you have, the more risk.
Follower, weather, and lighting mods are tricky and risky to mix.
Texture & mesh only mods are relatively safe.

1) Update EVE to paradox version. It's the latest installer for EVE now. That'll turn the 3 EVE plugins into one. Once you've done that, you can then use "Blackened" which will improve compatibility between FWE/EVE/MMM. New version probably coming out soon.

2) These should be enabled, either a mistake or you combined them yourself?

Is that texture/mesh only or new weapons with their own combat values?
I wouldn't mix random weapon mods with FWE, otherwise the weapons from your weapons mods will have crazy high damage compared to all the other weapons in your game.
If it doesn't have a special file for an FWE bridge, skip it. (or carefully tweak values yourself to be like the other FWE weapons)
That includes whatever mods you have that use calibre etc..

5) I'm not knowledgable about setting up Fellout but I would put extra effort into double checking that you have set it up correctly. Mistakes setting up weather/lighting mods are common sources of instability.

For #2 and #2, those have been merged into a single file to reduce load order. I will check into the setup of Fellout, and I got the upgraded version of EVE. For the Classic Fallout Weapons BETA mod, I ran a merged patch with it, but I also found a (old) patch for it with FWE, so I'll toss that in as well.

I have found, upon exiting the vault, I crash when getting approx. 200-300 meters away from the door that leads to the outside. No idea what is causing it.
