Add bigger ships, lower the price a bit and I am sold.
This isn't a "lone wolf" friendly, and to justify the price, as a multiplayer only game, it really needs to be hooking. However if like me you have no friends to play with (they can't get themselves to play good games), then you be in for disappointement.

Make the game somehow managable to play alone (planetside does this, it's easy to integrate on the fly with people you don't know, and the objectives are obvious enough to allow synergy between such players)

As for the bigger ships, it just seems logical to have such a thing.

I wish the best to the devs, but this still needs some work before being just worth it.

You don't need "friends" to play this. Just try not to totally annoy all the other players on your team. (Yesterday someone annoyed absolutely everyone on the Buccaneer team, because he kept spamming a taunt over and over again for 10 minutes. Then we booted him.)

You don't need to know the people. Usually you get decently skilled folks on your blimp.
Very rarely you get a totally incompetent crew. It's always fun and you don't need to know anyone.
Although you obviously get to know people over time and can tell who is a decent gunner, blocker, captain and so on.

I had the feeling that it was way more important to know people in AirBuccaneers for UT2004, since that was the only way to find enough people for a decent match at certain times.

Did you play the free version yet? If you didn't play, it would seem strange to jump to the conclusion that the game needs bigger ships.
If they were balanced decently, they could be nice. But if not, they could spoil the gameplay a lot. I would rather not have them, than have them implemented in the wrong way.

That's not giving a lot of credit to the developpers. You can't just deny somethiung out of the fear the devs might ♥♥♥♥ it up.

No, I didn't have the occasion to play the game yet even though I knew it since its first version. The issue was the same back then, no one to play with. Sure you can hop in pubs, but it's not just the same, and you know it.

In my experience it depends heavily on the time of the day.
If you play late at night CET, then you stumble upon many ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. (late at night as in past 12am)

And if you play in the evening or early night, you mostly have people around who enjoy playing as a team and it is fun to play with them.
It could not be any more fun if I played it with friends.

Well, your foundation is wrong.

You didn't have the chance to play; yet you're only sold if they add bigger ships? FYI. The current types work very nice indeed.

It has voice commands for every action and playing "alone" is never a problem - synergy flows well.

Price is subjective of course, but if your basis is on an already skewed perspective of the game, you may just want to throw the bucks... there's a free version available at their website with no perks etc. I've probably gotten 40+ hours out of this title since beta.

How can you say this if you never tried the game? =P

You can easily pilot a Cog ship and manage the cannon alone. I also feel that the price is totally fine. I paid for the special edition back in Alpha for $25 and I do not regret it at all.

I think it would be great if they added better benefits to the smaller ships so that they're worth using. What if theere was a ship that was small with one cannon but was fast and could drop bombs from above? That'd be pretty sweet.

Well a ship that could drop bombs would be interesting, but it'd have to be slow; maybe altering the kami to allow one bomb drop? Then they could blow up with the bomb and follow up on another ship with the kami

Preset voice commands alone are unacceptable, they need to add ingame voice chat. No one should have to re learn how to talk just to communcate with their team. And yeah we can use third party voice programs but only people I already know would ever reasonably do that, and no one I know owns this game. I don't think I'll be able to play this until they add voice chat or some people I know get it. I can't reasonably invite everyone I meet in a pub to teamspeak.

That is your oppinion. Mine is, that I'd rather not have my AirBuccaneers atmosphere destroyed by people talking, and that the voice macros are more than sufficient for all the communication needs in the game.

Responding to how Maxztt put it, I feel that it would depend for th voice chat. ♥♥♥♥♥♥bags aplenty out there would ruin it if they wanted to just by spamming the mic, is bad enough already when people spam commands or curse out in global or team chat. So really, I'm with Max, best to leave voice chat out of it, or atleast save it for special servers.

Something you should ask yourself that I hope you could answer honestly is "if this game had voice chat like every other game to begin with, would I notice or care about any negative aspects of being able to talk?"
They'd surely have a mute function also, so you could mute people you don't want to hear. And if alot of people really do feel the way you feel about this, I'm sure people would make some servers which aren't capable of voice chat. It's just too important to too many people for an online game to not have voice chat.
And it ruins the game's atmosphere for ME because I'm there, why would I not be able to talk? It's incredibly unimersive.

And what if I wanted specific people to take specific roles and actions? I'm pretty sure the macros can't come close to that. Language and communicaton is an important element of strategizing in online games.

A good point actually. I'm tired of my crew not understanding they should fire the flamer; forgot all about mute really, never use it but in rare occasions. And why is it so few understand how to fire the cannon with a boost? *laughing inside at that but it really is kinda dissapointing*

I do agree that integral VoIP is one of the more important things they should still add the to the game, but I don't think the lack of it ruins it all. The voice commands are adequate.

I almost prefer the voice commands over the squeaking 12 year old boy that just hit puberty, someone transmitting his ♥♥♥♥ty music to the world and a guy constantly screaming commands in Russian on a server where nobody else speaks the language.

At least two of those three seem to always join the server in any voice enabled multiplayer game I ever played and that would certainly be an atmosphere killer in a game with such a fun atmosphere.

However, going from AirBuccaneers current community, voice chat may actually be beneficial - most people I met so far were friendly and helpful.
