Theyre there because Valve has granted you access to them if you choose. As they do with other betas and free weekends. When betas end they should go away. Alternatively, you can hide your uninstalled games/ignore it. There is no way for a user to remove any game, purchased or not, from the games list. If you are really that OCD about it you can take a stab at Steam customer support. But they will likely tell you what I just said. I have a bunch of old MMOs as well as old versions of Company of Heroes. They told me they're there for good or unless they decide to yank em globally.

I create a category named ARCHIVED and place my titles/games in there that I no longer want to ever play and not install.

I then collapse the category and exit out of STEAM to save these into that category and reload STEAM.

Mine is called Trashcan, BFG and L4D beta and a few others are in their. OP you can minimize so the games are out of sight and out of mind. :D

Exactly, use the + symbol to minimize the category and then exit steam from the Steam menu and this will save the state of all categories, either Maximized or Minimized :)

You shoulddn't be asking yourself "Do I want to install this for my convenince," instead, you should be asking yourself "Do I want to help Valve test their stuff out?"
