Whoops.
So for some reason when I was just playing, my menu was completely blank, which wasn't a problem at all. But then when I'm ready to call it a night... I save and everything, then I click the little X next to the save file, thinking that it was for exiting the game. What I assumed was the "are you sure you want to quit" was the "are you sure you want to delete your whole save file" button. Welp. There goes four hours. Could have been worse.

*cringes* Ouch!

Yeah... that's the delete save button. :[ I don't think it's recoverable either. It almost certainly did not go to the recycle bin, you could take a look.

This is possibly a bit OCD: once the Creature started appearing, after each play session I'd go into the saved games folder and make a back-up copy of the 'saves.dat' file. At first I over-wrote each previous back-up, but then I started renaming them and built up a little library of save games so I knew that if, somehow, I got seriously borked, I could backtrack quite a way if I wanted to. As it happened, I never needed to, but it was nice to know I could if I wanted. :O)

If you're not sure where your system stores the saved games file, do a search for 'saves.dat' and you should find one in a folder called 'Miasmata'.

That's pretty smart. I guess I just got wayy too used to games that autosave so deleting my save file was the last thing I'd expect to click on

Just had my own 'whoops' - found plant X, got it back to a station no probs, and then went and synthesised it (on its own) instead of researching it.
'No useful medicinal agent found. And you have just destroyed your sample. You numpty.'
