You can now explore the island without the creature
Creature-phobes can now download a saved game where the character has been cured and none of the island has been explored: http://www.mediafire.com/?d8a9x5sd4x5elh8

This means that (i) your character is now pretty much indestructible, and (ii) the creature no longer appears (as far as anyone knows). So you have complete freedom to explore the island, by day or by night, with no fear of harm or attack (as far as anyone knows). :O)

Many thanks to SirBruceX and his speedrunning skills for making this possible.

Windows 7 users need to put the saves.dat file into:
C:\Users\~username~\AppData\Roaming\IonFx\Miasmata\
If other OSs are different, please post.

EDIT: For Windows 8, do a search for 'saves.dat' and see what comes up in a Miasmata folder. :O)

Pick up the map in the cabin you wake in and commence exploring!

Great work! Many thanks to you and SirBruceX for the tranquil adventure 'mod'. :)

Seems like it'd make the game less fun...
Anywho, does this mean the game's moddable? Because I'd like to see more enemies...

Well, I just had the idea for this after reading quite a lot of posts from people who just couldn't handle the creature. Personally, I think you're got a point - with this savegame you don't have to make potions, you don't have to worry about falling or drowning, you don't have to worry about being outside at night - you don't even need to drink. You don't have to do anything, so there's no challenge outside of what you impose on yourself. But you can now explore the island without fear of attack, and I just thought some people might like the chance to try that.

No (hence the quote marks around SP's comment). :O)

The creature was (quite beautifully and dreamily) terrifying enough for me, thanks... :O)

Yes, it's not moddable. A bit of a tongue-in-cheek prod at the devs, given the interest in modding shown here. Hopefully they consider for their next game.

But wouldn't you like to see something like, say, tribals? Add more life to this world, y'know?

One of the things I loved most about the game was the sense of being completely and utterly alone, so the presence of other people wouldn't appeal to me personally.

This is gonna sound odd given Miasmata's been one of my gaming highlights for the last few years - heck, ever - but the mod I'd be most interested in would be one that made the game a bit shorter. The game's atmosphere was (is) one of the most immersive and memorable I've ever experienced, at least for the first 70-80% of the playing time; towards the end I found my irritation with the game's shortcomings was outstripping my pleasure with all the stuff it did right.

Not sure how this mod could be done, but it's academic at the moment anyway. :O)

I actually only played through once, but it took me 24 hours of playtime. Honestly, one of the best games I have ever experienced, such a fantastic story and beautiful environment.

Roughly about the same time I took, I'd guess (42 game days, plus reloads after failed attempts to evade the Creature:)). Yeah, it really is an amazing experience - the feeling that descended on me when I'd realise it was later than I thought and I wasn't completely sure where the nearest camp was...it was fear, but nothing like the grinding dread of, say, Amnesia, or Shalebridge Cradle in Thief: Deadly Shadows. It was more woozy and dreamlike...almost delicious.... That island is a work of genius.

That's a clever way of giving the creature-phobes what they wanted. Personally I couldn't imagine playing without the creature, but it was nice of you to think of a way to make it possible for others :)

Can anyone tell me if they've downloaded this/ if it's safe? I'd love to play the game sans creature but the download looks kind of shady...
YukoValis Aug 21, 2013 @ 6:26pm
My computer blocked it, so I don't think it's safe anymore.

It's fine. Mediafire is one of those sites that can be filled with dubious warez (arrrr, me hearties!) but that's not the only thing on there. This file is legit and virus-free.

Where do you put this if you have Windows 8? >_<
simplen00b Aug 31, 2013 @ 11:18am
Don't have W8 so can't give an authoritative answer, but it might be worth trying to do a search for 'saves.dat' and see if anything shows up in a Miasmata folder - ???
